An Unforgettable Self-Drive Safari Experience! 🦁
We absolutely loved our visit to the Lion & Safari Park! The self-drive safari was an incredible experience — the park is beautifully maintained and offers a perfect balance of adventure and safety.
Seeing lions and lionesses up close in their enclosures was both thrilling and awe-inspiring. The animals looked well cared for, and the enclosures were secure, allowing us to fully enjoy the moment without any worries.
The whole experience was smooth, scenic, and truly memorable. Highly recommend this park to anyone looking to get a real taste of African wildlife up close — it’s well worth it!

We were very lucky to do the tour with Alex and have him all to ourselves! I told him on the day that it was one of the best afternoons of my life (he replied I must have had a very boring life!) and I still feel the same.
The opportunity to see these amazing, beautiful big cats so close up (very very close up!) was something I never imagined I’d have. And to hear Alex talk about his life with them and see first hand his relationship with them made it even more special.
If you have the chance to do Alex’s tour - do it!

Amazing to drive with the animal and see beautiful landscape. If and if only you have a 4x4, you can practice off road path. It's awesome to do it and you have a nice view on the top of the hill.
You also can after your safari have a break to the restaurants. Simple food, not expensive, cold beer...
Last but not least, around noon please be in the cage number 3 or 4 to see the medic fill the lions... It's impressive.

Always have had a good experience at this park every time I've come. The self drive is amazing. Your definitely going to see the animals up close and in your own time. The location and place is well set out. They have a huge gift shop which is quiet cool and separated over 5 domes. They also have a giraffe you are able to feed there. They also have restaurants onsite. The website states they are "halaal friendly" but haven't elaborated anymore. The one restaurant I asked said they weren't halal.

Just under a 30-minute drive from Johannesburg, the Lion Safari Park offers an exciting and accessible wildlife experience. Visitors can choose between guided tours or a self-drive option through the park. One of the highlights was witnessing the lions being fed — a truly thrilling sight!
The park is home to a variety of animals, including lions, hyenas, wild dogs, cheetahs, zebras, wildebeests, and several species of buck. It's a great place to spend the day with family or friends, offering both adventure and education in a safe environment.
Highly recommended for locals and tourists looking for a fun and memorable day out.

What an amazing experience!
We were a family of 6 that day and we done the 3 hour safari and were lucky enough to have the safari truck to ourselves, with lovely gifts bags for each of us with water, juice, nuts, biscuits, biltong and sweets.
Our tour guide, Princess was amazing, she was so knowledgeable and passionate about all the animals, from the small little dung beetle to the beautiful majestic giraffe. We got the absolute pleasure of meeting Purdy the giraffe, we got to stroke her and feed her some nuts which the kids absolutely loved. We even managed to get a glimpse of the baby hyena.
Princess made sure we had time to get amazing pictures and even took some pictures for us if we couldn't get the right shot.
Of course the animals were the stars of the show but Princess definitely made our safari the full educational experience.
We all absolutely loved our safari.

I had my worst and best day in South Africa, I got mugged on the way to the park this morning and I was totally shocked when I got there. I booked a three hour guided tour and I was the only one in the tour, my guide tried her very best to make up my trip. She is very knowledgeable, helpful, friendly and kind. She told me a lot about the lions and all the animals in the park, even I was the only one in the tour, she was still very patient with me. The park is not too big but so close to the city center, the lions were so close to me! I really enjoyed every minute of the tour, thanks to my guide. I didn’t have any cash left to pay any gratitude for all the staffs but I would love to send my love here. Thanks for telling me there is still love in Johannesburg. For everyone who is driving to the park from city, be safe.

Must visit if you need to see lions and lionesses roaming around your car and walk by your car. They have many options like self drive, guided tour. We took self drive the cost is around 285R. But limited animals. Only lions, cheetah, wild dogs, wild pigs, hyenas and near restaurants Giraffe was there. They also have horse raiding for kids

We had the absolute pleasure of working with Doreen & Sfiso while hosting international clients, and our experience at Lion & Safari Park was nothing short of fantastic.
From the start, Doreen made the booking process seamless, handling everything with professionalism and a warm, welcoming attitude. When we finally met her in person, it was an absolute joy! Given the nature of our visit, we had to prepare for two weeks of international guest arrivals, which led us to book a second tour at the park—and we were just as impressed the second time around!
On our second visit, Matilda was our guide, and what a wonderful lady she is! She kept our guests engaged and entertained throughout the experience, making the tour truly memorable.
To Doreen and the entire team at Lion & Safari Park—thank you for setting such a high standard for customer service. Your dedication and passion truly shine, and we appreciate everything you do. Keep up the incredible work! 🌟🦁
Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We came here on a morning two hour guided tour. Our tour guide was spectacular! He was so witty and full of jokes which made the drive so much fun. He really got us up close with every single animal he could find. It was also lovely meeting George, the famous lion!

My experience is very two folded. Firstly, my kids enjoyed the kids area and there were many play options for them. The horses close to the restaurant were calming and enjoyable. The general atmosphere of the walkways and main centre was great with friendly staff and many options.
Secondly, less positive is the general maintenance of the park. The roads are not all accessible by sedans. The bathrooms at the hyena enclosures did not have toilet seats and were substandard. There are a few clear indications that there needs to be some maintenance done in the main centre.

Lovely day out & experience self drive. Only reason for 4 stars is the anger that the caged vehicle driver was driving so fast during the lion feeding time at 12:00 it was off putting. There are speed limits and seems this driver couldn't care less

Love it. Well maintained and different ways to explore. You can book a safari drive with a guide or go on a self-drive. Love the fact that the cages are big enough for the wild animals. All the animals are well kept after. Nice restaurant to have a traditional meal. Well worth a visit.

The Lion and Safari Park is an unforgettable experience. We opted for the self-drive, which was absolutely beautiful and allowed us to get incredibly close to the animals, especially the lions – a breathtaking sight! Along the way, we spotted giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, bucks, impalas, a dung beetle, a tortoise, and more. The scenery was stunning throughout, making the drive even more enjoyable. The staff were helpful and super friendly, adding to the overall great experience. We visited on a Thursday and the park was quiet which was lovely, but I can imagine they get very busy during holidays and weekends.
Highly recommended for wildlife enthusiasts!

A bit long, but this is what you could expect:
Saw a man feed the giraffe plain Lays chips (South Asian - the man, not the crisps) . Didn't seem right because you pay to feed him and then you get feed pallets. That said, someone on the staff was called to speak with the couple. He went to complain to the woman that sold it to him(or that gave him the go ahead). She said, no man you are the customer, you pay us, you have the right. She said her name was Rika/Ria/Rita or something close. I'm not an expert, so I assume that plain Lays are their food of choice in the wild.
Next.. Part 2 of the Giraffe review.
An Australian couple an their kids has laid claim to the Giraffe, they own it now and may still be there, now 3 days later. She kept hugging it and taking instagram reels and pictures. Oh, and if you're afraid you might be in the way, her husband would ask you to move. You probably know her or have seen her on Instagram, because with that amount of effort to get recognised or attention, surely it must work.
The good:
Animals were beautiful and looked healthy.
I took the 2 hour guided Safari and the guide was kind and very informative. Was a good time.
If you drive through with your own car, the roads are in pretty good condition, but I wouldn't recommend a car that's low and its body is close to the ground.
The good's good, the bad's weird.
Enjoy.

Self drive at the park was one of the most unique experiences we've had, driving so close to wildlife, particularly all the lions. The lions were not very active when we visited at noon, but still, it was breathtaking to see the majestic animal up close. We visited around noon on a weekday, and it there were almost no other visitors -- it was like we had the place to ourselves. Another highlight was the giraffe, who gave us ample opportunities to take numerous selfies. The drive itself to the rest of the park is also quite enjoyable.
They no longer keep lion cubs, and giraffe feeding was not available at the time of our visit.

Beautiful place to See LIONS (not tigers) very close to you.
You may drive your car and parking it next to a Price of Lions and see them eating from your car windows , almost two Feet away

Great place to spend the day. If you have a 4x4, they have nice easy routes for you to navigate. The higher levels are clearly marked but make sure you are with experienced 4x4 people. There are normal routes for normal cars to see the animals. No 4x4 needed. Nice restaurant onsite, but we did not have time to eat there. Only pitfall for us South African is the cost to enter.

Went on a Sunday and it wasn’t as busy as it usually is which is great. The tickets are affordable. Went a self-drive, got there just in time for feeding at noon and it was an amazing experience to see the lions and they were just focusing on their meal and not the cars around them. Then we saw giraffes and zebras by the water hole. We didn’t see any hyenas in their enclosure. We only saw two cheetahs (they hide under trees mostly so it’s not easy to spot them). The boring part of the drive was the loop - my advice don’t bother especially because there’s no animals in the loop and the rocks there are sharp enough to damage your tyres.
The service is great and it was a hot day so keep the windows closed and turn on that AC. It would be nice if they had a family restaurant and a kiddies play area.
I’d recommend for a day visit with family and friends.

Value for money now as the park has been extended. Previously the drive was very short but now if u do the entire park it can take 2-3 hours. Lots of animals to see and friendly staff. The facilities are good with reasonable food at the restaurants.

We saw lots of animals but the lions were the most impressive. The entrance fee is low and for less than 500 ZAR we made the self drive. So we could stop and watch the lions for longer. It is also possible to do the tour twice. You can turn left just before the exit.

Not my first visit and never been disappointed.
Didn't pre-book but the queue moved quite quickly, Ria was extremely friendly, professional, insightful and helpful in booking the correct tickets. She left a lasting impression.
We did the self drive. The only down side was the lion enclosure 1 was vacant and the wild dogs were nowhere to be seen.

Absolutely amazing experience, coming as a tourist - this was such a great tour. You can self-drive through the park with different lion species 🦁 and you get to see other animals too, like giraffes 🦒 and wild dogs. You can also look at how they feed the lions - it was so interesting to see how the males choose which piece of meat they want to eat. At the end of the tour you can also buy souvenirs. Couldn't recommend more. 🦁

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We checked in online and found the place easily. We loved the fact that we could drive around the enclosures as many times as we liked. We opted for a self drive which gave us an opportunity to really get up close to the lions. We also stayed to watch a feeding in one of the enclosures.
We went all the way to the wild dogs enclosures but did not see much because they were napping.
We took a walk around the reception area and had ice cream from the curing shop. We exited through the 5 domes and did a bit of shopping. I recommend this place for family outings, it's exciting

Beautiful day spent here. The guided tour was amazing. Got some beautiful videos and photos. Would highly recommend. Even better if you go in a group. Waiting time was really minimal. Got in free for a 1hr safari for my birthday (has to be on the exact date) 😁

This is a nice park to go to. The route is pretty much set in 1 direction for the predators, going through 1 gate after the other entering different predator areas. What is particularely nice is the fact that you are guaranteed to see the predators. The driving routes are near enough so you can view the animals without struggling to see them. The queue's to get in was a bit of a wait, but i guess if you dont want to wait, purchase tickets online. The habitat areas for the lions and cheetahs are a little bit small compared to the land space they actually have available, so this initially made me give 4 stars instead of 5. Their animals are also well fed, as seen in the pictures, i would almost think the hyenas are a little overweight lol. Keep up the good work at the park.
