In my opinion it's not a lack of wallets... not really. It's lack of education, laziness, and an unfriendly regulatory environment that doesn't want Bitcoin competing with banks/central banks. Just in my opinion.
You're right about empowering businesses, but why are you worried about spam when Bitcoin still has a reliable and completely secure network? We Bitcoiners have discovered this wonderful world and woken up from the Fiat madness, but there are people who don't even know about this. I think it's better to have quality than quantity. Bitcoin will continue to be Bitcoin with or without us who know what it is.

Spam indirectly results in many cases of bloating of the UTXO set which makes it more difficult/more expensive hardware-wise to run a node.
Once the node is 'set up' it's ok... but it makes the IBD (initial block download) take longer.

I didn't know that, I've been in Bitcoin for a short time and I thought this didn't influence the blockchain or mining.
