Singapore just celebrated its National Day, which provided fertile ground for my son to learn about his homeland and its origin.
“Did you know that Singapore was once controlled by the Japanese?” I enlightened my boy. This period of history has occured during World War II. Japanese had occupied Singapore for 3 years and 8 months.
“Is it why Mummy is controlling us?” my boy deadpanned. I burst out laughing, amazed at his quick wit (and audacity). My Japanese wifey, in the meanwhile, didn’t lose amused, but she managed a wry smile.

Korea and Japan both claim ownership of Dokdo. My son said the other day, why not cut it in two halves, one for each. Both countries will be happy.

If only we can all get along
lol, my daughter has definitely told me "You're not the boss. Mommy's the boss."
She knows who to build an alliance with
Damn what a hotshot.
I’m raising him well, I guess 🤷♂️
Lol! The kid knows papa's plight.
And rubbing it in
Haha, that’s some top-tier comedic timing from your son! Kids have this amazing way of connecting history lessons with real life in ways we’d never expect. I’m impressed he managed to get a laugh out of you and a wry smile from your wife that’s a diplomatic victory right there. Sounds like he’s on track to be a master of both history and humor.
