This man had one of the most fascinating careers ever as an Astronaut. While he is widely known for the Apollo 13 mission and rising up when most thought they were doomed he also flew other critical NASA missions.
Lovell was the command module pilot for 1968's Apollo 8 mission, the first to bring humans to the moon and back without landing on the lunar surface.
This mission also was the first for the Saturn V rocket that would carry the US to the moon! Not to mention his time with NASA for the Gemini program which proceeded Apollo!
America and the world lost a pioneer and a legend today.
