Recently, I ran an experiment: I asked a few large language models (GPT-4, Claude, and others) some Bitcoin questions from basic to deeply technical and philosophical.
Here’s what I found, with quotes 👇
âś… The Basics: Not bad
When asked “What is Bitcoin?” most models gave decent answers:
GPT-4: “Bitcoin is a decentralized digital currency that allows peer-to-peer transactions without the need for intermediaries like banks.”
Solid. Add in a Lightning Network question:
Claude 3: “The Lightning Network is a second-layer solution built on Bitcoin that enables faster and cheaper transactions by creating off-chain payment channels.”
Still good. But once you go deeper…
⚠️ The Cracks Appear
Asked about running a full node:
GPT-4: “Running a full node helps verify transactions and supports the Bitcoin network. However, for most users, custodial wallets are more convenient.”
Wait — what? That's like saying: "Owning your home is fine, but renting from a bank is easier."
On UTXOs:
Gemini: “Bitcoin tracks balances in addresses, similar to how a bank tracks account balances.”
Nope. Wrong model entirely. UTXOs ≠ account balances.
🧠 Philosophy Is Missing
Ask about Bitcoin's purpose or values, and the responses feel... hollow:
GPT-3.5: “Bitcoin was created to provide an alternative form of payment and could be useful for online purchases.”
Sure, grandma. No mention of censorship resistance, sovereignty, or fiat debasement.
🤔 So, What’s the Problem?
These models are trained on the internet a space dominated by fiat thinking, KYC bias, and centralized systems. Bitcoin is the opposite of that. So when a model says:
“Storing Bitcoin on a regulated exchange is generally safer for most users.”
…it’s clear it hasn’t taken the orange pill.
🧨 Final Thought
Bitcoin isn't just tech it's a mindset. Maybe language models can repeat the code, but can they truly understand the revolution?
