First person to bring a new member to Stacker News living in South Dakota gets the bounty. South Dakotan must create a new account and comment with something proving they are in South Dakota (maybe a photo of piece of paper with the username in a clearly South Dakotan location?). The referrer gets paid, not the South Dakota, but I will zap the South Dakotan.
Thought this could be an interesting hunt, and I'm always interested to see new members.
Will retract the bounty on August 14 US Eastern Time if no one comes forth.
1,357 sats bounty
let's not incentivize people to self-dox their location?
That relates to a question I had - do people protect their city / state / country on here? I've seen a mix. For example, k00b is clearly in Austin per the footer on Stacker News. I've posted photos from NYC and Philly.
This is obviously opt-in, and don't out your South Dakotan friend if they don't want to be located.
The prevailing culture is to protect our real identities, but it’s neither mandatory nor universal.
Hey, that's a good idea. Maybe I'll be encouraged to make one, but with people from Latin America, the world is huge.
Would be fun! Let’s see what happens
why south dakota?
Was trying to find a less populated state to make it less likely that someone would already be there and hit the bounty in a few minutes. Conversely, didn't want to go too small to make this overly difficult. We'll see if my pick was a good one
