Indeed. Could be deeper than the surface but also related to attractiveness as well. I could see confidence being affected more in attractive students due to the isolation vs. the less attractive.
It reminds me of a thought experiment regarding sex discrimination. There are real life examples like this I'm sure but the example was of a light house operator who was a very attractive female. The idea was that she really wanted to do that as a career since her physical attributes would make it much easier for her to do many other things where she would have a larger advantage.
I tend to think we aren't capable of removing all of our own biases but it is noble to be aware of them and fight against them to be just with others. Even more to help those that need it.
