I live in a place where the internet can go down without warning, and the infrastructure is far from ideal. But I'm still building and experimenting with Lightning.
Why?
Because it's the only way I've found to actually hold and move value in real time without asking for permission. No banks, no apps freezing my funds, no waiting 3 days for anything to clear.
I started helping local merchants accept LN using LNbits + Phoenixd on low-power Androids. It's not perfect, but it works. Even with spotty connections and low-end hardware, you can still run a self-custodial Lightning wallet and get paid.
It’s not just about tech, it’s about financial survival. And Lightning, for all its quirks, lets us participate.
If Lightning can work here, it can work anywhere.

Hello. Actually, this solution exists because the tools are already built, so anyone with a bit of curiosity and need can combine them—especially now that LNbits allows for a more seamless integration with Phoenixd. In Cuba, it's a solution for those who want self-custody on ultra-slow connections and with limited resources, since with just 21.5k SAT, you can open a 2M SAT channel. But regarding this particular post, I don't know anything. I hope I can meet the author of the post, who is a doctor like me, to exchange experiences and see what they've achieved. That's all I can say.
