I will say this, I would take the pre-TSA days of air travel over what we have now.
Late 90’s air travel was comfortable and affordable enough and I’m perfectly happy to just read a book for entertainment.
true... and have worse connectability/reach and much higher cost (at least in real terms)

Yep, but I don't go that many places or live somewhere with good current connectivity.
I do however deeply hate going through TSA queues and being crammed in with enormous fatties who didn't exist yet in the 90's.

true, but that seems like two problems (=America's obesity + America's overregulated TSA/incompetency) separate from air travel quality changing over time
