I like the idea for a write up, but, incidentally, i think your title is misleading, since as you said,

and this is what "[style guides](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_style_guides)" tend to do. i understand theres nothing about the word "guide," literally speaking, that suggests "mandatory," but conventionally speaking "style guides" are.
