As some of you already know, we're in the process of homeschooling, and for that, we need space. Since we lived in a small apartment, we started a deep cleaning process at home a few days ago. It wasn't a planned process; one day, we realized how much space was being taken up by things we didn't use. From clothes to small items that had been stored for years "just in case they were needed," the house was accumulating more than necessary.
Just from clothes, we took out two large, tight sacks. We went through each item. We decided to take what was in good condition to a flea market to sell at a low price (they didn't give me much, but it's money), and we separated what was average to donate. The damaged items, without much thought, went into the trash. We realized that holding on to things you no longer use, out of nostalgia or habit, only takes up space.
My wife also started working on those drawers and boxes where you keep junk, old cables, loose buttons, broken parts, empty containers that looked useful… and it was incredible how much came out. Yesterday alone, I made three trips to the condo's trash can.
We realized that we weren't just freeing up physical space, but also mental space. Less stuff, more clarity. More order, less anxiety. A more functional and lighter home without so many things to clean regularly.
We also realized how easy it is to put off these decisions for months… even years. Things that should have been gone a long time ago just sit there, taking up a corner of our house.
And you, what are you accumulating that you no longer need?
