I can’t believe I let myself not go to the gym this whole week just because I’m sleeping late
So I will go now and break the cycle of not going to the gym because I’m sleeping late because I’m not tired because I didn’t go to the gym
I blame my irresponsible drinking of too much coffee (up to four cups a day)

The only time I reached 4 coffees I had extreme nausea and ultimately fainted, which is kind of a catastrophic reaction from my system lol.
Dehydration is no-joke so make sure to drink a lot of water!

I'm definitely not drinking enough water haha
I should start to donate blood or plasma again, because then I actually drink enough water.
When I invited a friend to join me one time, she was so worried about passing out that she drank more water than ever before in her life. Then she noticed how good she felt, even after donating blood, and we concluded it must be because of all the water she drank haha

it's a self-feeding cycle: skip a day, and I'm more likely to skip another day.

Yikes. Well if it makes you feel any better I haven’t pushed code in about a month!

Not really but appreciate the attempt haha
When will you push code again?

I lost all energy with the plebdev course. I would find issues and bugs and they would never get addressed unless I mention something on here. Plus paying 50k sats to only have your membership lapse to pick up where I left off again was really deflating. It just seems like plebdev is stretching himself too thin to actually focus on his product. I was going to post about it about why taking the plebdev course might be a bad idea.
And I say that because on SN you and k00b address problems very quickly. It feels like support is always around. When you are providing education services at a cost you have to be engaged with your customers constantly.
So now I think I’m just going to practice leaning swift and learn how to make an iOS app over the next few weeks/months

Hey @BlokchainB first of all I am sorry about the bug. I am realizing I forgot to respond to you on that particular issue. I had tried to do an initial PR to fix it. I thought I did, but you were still having the issue and I could not replicate it. Your bug and a few other issues motivated me to finally start the full rebuild of the plebdevs platform because the original build-out (though functional) is full of tech bloat because I was figuring so much out and doing my first past implementation and almost all of the novel features that are on the platform so fixing bugs and adding new features at this point is becoming too time consuming.
So I’m sorry for not responding but I have refunded you for one month and I recently upgraded you to a free full year subscription after your most recent issue (I literally did this last week and forgot to tell you smh) and this will also extend into the rebuilt platform.
You are correct that I am doing too much at once and plebdevs is not getting the attention and focus it deserves. I would love to work plebdevs full-time and I would love to have full-time allocation for working on my open source projects, but I still have a full-time job and plebdevs has always been a passion project for me. I’ve never really made money off of it nor have I raised money and it’s something I’m still passionate about and want to continue to grow and work on.
Plebdevs is not in the class of stackernews, it is not an excellent product, it is flawed and scrappy but I am always here to “do things that don’t scale” and manually make up 10x for where the product falls short so please reach out and let’s get you past your current blocker. I know the bug with the lessons order is annoying but they are all still viewable and I have given you the correct order so let’s figure out how to continue where you left off on the course and I’m happy to meet with you fill in any gaps with some short impromptu lessons over video call
reply
Thank you so much for responding!
Now I can finish the lesson I was on and get back into a groove.
I hate to be critical of something I’m not putting a lot of effort into to but it felt like I was paying for an unfinished product as you mentioned.
The free content seem to be more refined than the paid content. Plus after paying for something only for it to go back behind a paywall put another barrier up with my learning progression. But now with a year access I can really dive back in. I also started to learn swift as well so I can learn to develop an iOS app.
If I find any more bugs or have issues I’ll be sure to reach out!

I would find issues and bugs and they would never get addressed unless I mention something on here.
How can issues or bugs be addressed if nobody mentions them?
He can’t find everything by himself, more eyeballs, unique experiences and setups will always find more. We also rely on users telling us when something is wrong. I don’t test all of SN all the time.
Plus paying 50k sats to only have your membership lapse to pick up where I left off again was really deflating.
Mhh, yeah, I can imagine that
I was going to post about it about why taking the plebdev course might be a bad idea.
You mean a follow-up post?
And I say that because on SN you and k00b address problems very quickly. It feels like support is always around.
We’re in a unique position because our users don’t have to switch context to complain, they can just do it within the product.
We reply fast because we also don’t have to switch context, we’re using the product all the time, but that’s also something unique because SN is something you can use all the time.
When you are providing education services at a cost you have to be engaged with your customers constantly.
Fair point but how do you imagine this constant engagement? A common thing companies do to constantly engage with their users is to constantly send emails but that gets annoying really quick, right?
I don’t want to dismiss your bad experience, but sounds to me like he could have been more proactive, but also you could have had more agency. Or did you send him feedback and he didn’t reply?
———
Update: I also wonder why instead of writing me this, why didn’t you mention him?
I considered mentioning him for you, but I didn’t, because that’s something you should do

I would create issues on github and they would go unanswered for weeks.
You mean a follow-up post?
Yes just to document my experience.

The issues on GitHub go unanswered for a long time.

This is 1,000% true. That is why I’m not hyper critical of the platform. Part of this is my own fault for not following up but time is at a premium.
Update: I also wonder why instead of writing me this, why didn’t you mention him?
Yeah I should but this is just me being passive aggressive about this. It’s like I truly want to dive in and then I think myself out of it. When I finally get the motivation and time to learn the bug I posted about on github still isn’t fixed I get frustrated. Plus plebdev has been amazing the few times I have reached out we spent a lot of time fixing the vs code issue I had. So a part of me doesn’t want to waste his time if I am not going to be serious about this.

4th week of transition
  • My class had breakfast with the school leaders this week, so as is customary of me, I tried to get my students to write simple thank-you messages. One boy stood out from the crowd because he wrote about sigma and aura. Apparently, in Gen Alpha lingo, sigma means cool, and aura means ego (but in a good way). I really feel happy that my street credibility has been boosted.
  • Learnt so much about the workings of the hydroponics farm in my school. Felt that my horizons have been broadened.
  • Realised that an ex-colleague had an upcoming interview with MOE next week, so took time out to call him and reveal my interview experience. In another life, I would have been a career consultant. Don’t think I would ever realise this aspiration, but it’s good that I get to satisfy this yearning in another sense.
  • I took my Foundation Science class to the Hall again this week to play a game, hoping that some of the facts would be etched in their minds. Honestly, given their rowdy nature and the fact that a lesser teacher would have shouted himself hoarse, I’m not so sure about their retention rates. Nonetheless, I’m quite proud of the way I have been churning out ideas to teach them Science alternatively (and hopefully, effectively).
