A weak ago I posted some updates about my construction site in the SN Saloon and @LibertasBR asked a genuine question about engineers: #1044571
And I gave him intentionally a half answer, just to see if somebody else could give the right answer for that question. After another week I came back to give the other half answer. @LibertasBR and others deserve it.
The right answer is this.
Asking / consulting an engineer about my construction is in fact an appeal to authority.
What is a painter in regards to his paints ? THE AUTHOR. Did you see any painter going to consult with somebody else about THEIR CREATIONS? What is a writer in regards of the books he wrote? THE AUTHOR. Did you see any writer going to consult with somebody else about THEIR CREATIONS? Same I am the AUTHOR of my house I am building.
Even the word "authority" comes from author, the creator of something. If I go to an engineer and ask to do the construction plan and execution, in the moment I will cease to be THE AUTHOR of that house. I will be only the beneficiary. If I go to register that house, also I will cease to be the PROPRIETARY of the house, I am literally giving away my house.
So @LibertasBR I understand you genuine question, but I also know that in subconscious your brain told you to APPEAL FOR AN AUTHORITY. I know, we were trained from early ages to think (wrongfully) like that, I do not blame you, just want to point out this aspect in our life.
So when I said that I do not want to "consult" any engineer, I mean I do not want to let him be the author of my creation...
When I said that I want to build a house with my own hands, I also wanted to say that is MY CREATION, I am the author and the owner of it. When you create something with your mind and hands, it is your creation and nobody can deny that.
What surprised me was that none of the SN libertarians come to say about this "appeal to authority" in that discussion.
And this situation apply also for a not so well know fact: when you get a govID. You go to sign it, but in fact you are not the AUTHOR of it. You are just the user. You are just signing for the CREATION OF A CORPORATION using your name and they dupe you to sign and agree.
I hope this quick reference will teach you all something new today.

You might be philosophically right but I assure you that I would have to hire a large group of professionals from all directions to build an house because I'm absolutely incapable of building one myself. The right people for the right job! Also it might be a little forced since the writer and the painter would surely had a mentor that teach them the art that then they developed in their own way and in many cases they overcome their teacher if they were good students. The creation was theirs but they might have "consulted" with their own mentor about the techniques and materials to use to materialize that creation after it came to their mind.

I totally agree with you.

Man, you are confusing authority with authorship.

I don't understand this act as an appeal to authority, as it proposes to be, like someone validating nonsense using their titles instead of facts. Next, I understood your concept and why you used this term. It's not a case of appeal to authority, as @javier said. That's why I think few people responded focused on that term.
You made yourself clear here. Consulting someone would make your unique work become a joint effort, and in case that person has more experience or titles, it would be considered their work. Even if it was to avoid issues, your piece would end up being conditioned to not being solely yours.
I'm glad that my question led to further clarifications on points that can sometimes seem obvious, like the authorship of a work.
