I deleted all my useless accounts on websites and social media (Reddit, X, Insta, FB, TikTok, WhatsApp). The only one I use is YouTube, and that too through an open source client (you can make changes like removing Shorts, comments) called NewPipe from F-Droid.
Now, after doing all this, the urge to create new accounts and go back was the worst, but I used DNS like NextDNS and blacklisted all the social media and everything that's distracting. It also works as a great ad blocker as well, with a lot of lists.
Now I'm just here on Stacker News (not much active) and I sometimes visit Hacker News and Reddit (it has some great subs). I'd recommend you visit these two subs: r/digitalminimalism and r/nosurf.
I have now realised to use my devices as a tool and how to use the Internet wisely. I spend more time reading now, my focus has increased, and I sleep well now.
I feel like I'm definitely winning. As for kids, you should never give them access to uncontrolled Internet, and you can do the same on kids' devices as well. Basically, if you talk to them openly about everything, they'll understand and would be careful, but do it before giving them access.
