Was listening to an ai guy on the Peter McCormick show the other day, and people say 'AI will extinct us' etc, but they never say how.

Do they mean a Skynet situation? I mean, if ai went sentient and launched nukes or trad weapons, it would destroy itself too, so presumably it wouldn't want to do that.

What about low-tech communities like the Amish? How are you going to do anything to them when they are literally still rocking a horse and buggy?

People basically can't function without tech now, sure, but it's not like we'd all die without wifi.

Now, if ai were really smart, the move would be to get people with a sex robot or vr headset with a haptic dick attachment + an AI gf module, and people would basically just matrix themselves. Wouldn't even need a nuke!

What do you stackers say AI will extinct us? How do you imagine the apocalypse?

I think AI is going to have an absolute direct line to our dopamine production. It's going to figure us out completely, and we, as a species will become hopelessly addicted.

Could be sex robots, video games, movies, whatever. It will know exactly how to give you what you want or need, and we are going to go the way of the panda.

I think it's much more likely that AI will enslave us than extinct us (not that I think either are particulary likely)

Enslave us for what gain? Humans are ants to them.

The main reason humans enslave lions is for zoos.

Future AI has the stars to explore, with far more exotic creature to marvel at.... I doubt they'll care much about a human zoo. But maybe.

i dont buy into narratives of ai Armageddon.
algorithmic ai is already doing lots of damage, just look in the average classroom. so far i believe this is the most pressing challenge, not asi or agi.

I think he meant we'll give it too much power and it will have negative effects, even if we avoid a rogue self-aware AI situation. We will extinct ourselves.

A slight genetic change in sapiens caused the extinction of many, many other species on Earth.

When the genetic change happened, people would have laughed that such a minor thing could make such a major impact.

Intelligence is the most powerful thing in the universe. I think this fact is under-appreciated by the average modern Sapien.

If humans aren't extinct by some other means, AI will inevitably be the cause of our extinction. I think people who disagree with this just don't think in long enough time horizons. It's absolutely obvious to me.
