pull down to refresh

some may have noticed i pulled the trigger on a new territory for the creators, especially writers, of sn.
consider it one of the many attempts to push for more evergreen content here. it is battle that is up against sports betting/prediction markets, and bitcoin-or-nothing content. i have no issues there. its a worthwhile struggle. we all drink from the same well, which i believe gets more abundant the more the community grows, not less.

thematic/vibe territories

my intentions are to found a territory that is not so much topic-based as it is vibe based. unlike ~science, ~tech, ~movies and ~bitcoin, we also have ~alter_native and ~mostly_harmless, as examples of this. vibe-based territories escape a neat and easy definition. those mentioned have done particularly well at that.
in following them, i'll try to refrain from sticking a definitional label as i grow so to allow it to evolve over time.

BY bitcoin and not OF bitcoin

in my opinion, bitcoin creates new possibilities that have nothing to do with economics, game theory or the typical tropes, as interesting as these may be. the bitcoin deamon keeps running in the background, no matter what. part of what that means to me is a necessitaty to promote content that is not ostensibly about bitcoin, but possible by bitcoin. that's what sn means to me.
this got captured beautifully yesterday in my AskSN post where bitcoin didn't once get mentioned (ok sats got mentioned once). the point stands, stackers are doing much more than stacking.
creators/builders in bitcoin adjacent and freedom-tech also do this. bitcoin defines their ethos, but not always the content of what they build. those builders are not reiterating more of the same, but allowing principles/rules/physics to inform and set the tone and context of their work. stackers, of course, are among them. that's one of the reasons i'm here.
prediction markets, to take another example, might have nothing to do with bitcoin, while, in their current form, are made possible by it.

bitcoin as money and ethos

ive written about it before--an ethos of low-time preferences and monetary secularism, freedom, accountability and a culture of high-quality products and content have to supplant the crony culture of 'high-velocity trash' pushed by ideologues. this, imho, is how bitcoin succees.
going forward, this is the ethos i'll let inform my territory-related decisions. and i'll expect all of you to keep me in check if i fall out of line.

plug

i recently launched a competition where im pledging a reward for top posts. more here

Worthwhile goal and well said. I haven't specifically founded a vibe type territory, but I have tried to further SN's scope beyond bitcoin. Good luck, and great idea re the contest. I'll probably submit something.

i appreciate the feedback.

this is an interesting way to put it. It's like: there are zaps, but there is also a certain kind of internet interaction that we can have because the platform is moderated by zaps.
reply
yes, well said! no doubt we are here for the zaps, but on a deeper level, i think it is that zaps unlock a new, dynamic way of interacting online. and the site is refreshingly free of algorithmic ai, ads, and bots so there's that too.

por qué no los dos?!
