I think this is a feature of the internetification we've lived through the past 2 decades (basically since the smartphone.) People find out how huge the world is and feel themselves insignificant in the greater world they are now exposed to.
You don't need to be the main character in the world, be the main character in your world. To effectuate this, be as sovereign as makes sense for your family/individual situation.
Let the herd be a statistic again.
Beautifully worded.
I think I’m at the age where I wonder about legacy and purpose, so it’s a nice reminder that just because I don’t do something that has large scale and impact doesn’t mean that what I do is trivial

Large scale impact often goes hand in hand with morally questionable things, unless you give the world a paradigm shifting invention. Whatever you want your legacy to be, are you willing to be relentless in its pursuit?
Would you scam people to then use the proceeds to bribe other people to get your way? Like SBF...
If you even have to consider this then you're not sociopath enough, so either invent something and let the real sociopaths scam on top of it (i.e. like the internet, or bitcoin), or just do the best you can to make the world better one step at a time. You're probably doing the world a favor by doing your best on a smaller scale.

PS: As a teacher, I think you can have a larger impact than most of us though: you are in a position to inspire thousands of individuals throughout your life. Most of us don't get much further than a handful.
