I think there was a bit of time where it was really roaring, Damus was top 8-10 in the App Store in China/Hong Kong. I did do a scraping of all posts in Simplified Mandarin and found some people were discussing mundane day-to-day topics like the subway. There’s some usage - especially since some content doesn’t require a VPN. But it has tailed off a bit.
