I think at the beginning, Bitcoin was actually cool and interesting for both outlets. With TechCrunch, in all honesty, I ended up writing about one of the world’s first shitcoins (which sponsored Dennis Rodman to go to North Korea), VentureBeat was a more meaningful Bitcoin remittances piece. The editors at the time actually welcomed those stories and were excited. These days, it’s very difficult to get Bitcoin into outlets like this - you’re either segmented into your own section (ex: Forbes Digital Assets) or outright ignored. I actually had an editor ask me if I was trying to write about Bitcoin in one of my pitches about Nostr, and though there were a number of other reasons, that piece ended up being killed.
