Man if social media was around when Ichiro broke in than I would say yes. Ichiro just shook up baseball and was the first Japanese player in any major sports league to come in and be a superstar. NBA wasn't nearly as world wide as they are now and hockey while it was just wasn't and still isn't as big as the others

I think Ohtani but it's pretty close. Ichiro was beloved.
