I saw this on X and I thought it'd be fun for stackers.

Be warned: If the first thing you do is either invent, encourage the invention, or wait until 2009 to acquire bitcoin, you're immediately teleported back to 2025 and your existing bitcoin stack is gone. Time doesn't like predictability, sorry.

I'd try whatever I can to get on the development team of Bioware. My mission will be to get onto Bioware and do whatever I can to prevent its eventual acquisition by EA.

I'd talk to my aunt (elderly back then, but still with it, and eager to tell stories about her life), and LISTEN to her stories, and write them down.

When I finally got around to doing this, she was no longer able to really tell a story anymore.

reply

Jesus, I'd spend all my time doing this, till I got booted back to the present.

Of course, explaining to people who I was would take up a lot of that story time I reckon.

I'd go skateboarding.

"But Kruw, you can go skateboarding in 2025"

I know, but there was a style and culture around it back then. Participating in something while its popularity is at its peak isn't an experience that can be imitated.

How would you stop it?

good question, I don't know how one would stop it. everyone would think you are a loon. maybe it's one of those events that is destined to happen in some form or another.

it would make for a wicked movie script though.

reply

It reminds me about Quantum Leap 1989 tv show. Main character were jumping in different history periods and tried to help people. In one of episodes he sang never existed before in that time period song, and his sister didn't want to believe him he's from future

Hahaha, felt that.

Girl I was into took my scarf and ran away playfully once (one of countless signals in retrospect), but I just went like "ha-ha what a brat" and went to class.

Some say she still has my scarf to this day.

I don't a fuck what she says either, I'm taking the princess Diana bear.

She'd definitely be into me. It's 1995, I'm balding, middle aged, and have magical internet money thst hasn't even been invented yet. I know exactly what time it is.

reply

Now I'm kind of into you.

I'd probably go somewhere busy, like a mall, and watch people without phones and screens. I'd also be curious about supermarkets and what I could buy.

Yes the screen thing would be really interesting. What did people do back then, when waiting in line, etc? Just...talk to someone? Stare into space? Read a book?

I honestly can not really remember.

They thought about things and looked into the distance. If magazines were available they thumbed through those. That's what I remember.

If I am not thinking about erasing my sons I would catch some bad people committing bad acts that weren't exposed until recently. No one anyone here knows. But I could do some justice for some people I know. Stop some things that haven't happened yet.

Man, being a hero is not the first thing I'd think of.

reply

It wasn't mine either but after thinking about it more it came to me. If I can't just invent bitcoin or if I'm basically not going back to my wife and sons and don't want to mess up their futures... I'd do some good stuff that is impossible to do now and disappear maybe not to cause more issues with timelines. Even so... I wonder what the ripple effects would be for me and my family because it would change some positives for me. And... I have no guarantee of the outcome either.

reply

Am I who I was in 1995, assuming I was alive already, or am I present me in 1995?

Present you. You go to sleep tonight and wake up in 1995.

reply

My existential fear when it comes to time travel is that I make a significant enough change that my daughter never exists, so I would probably place as much distance between myself and anything that I know came to bear on my life or my wife's.

So, maybe move to rural Japan and teach English.
