My healthcare costs don’t outstrip housing but if I were living somewhere rural they might.

Healthcare spending is heavily bimodal with some households spending very little and some spending an enormous amount.

As an European I am shocked about the health cost in US. I have some friends that told me some mind-blowing stories... I am happy they managed to move and can benefit of the European health system.

I would like to see this by age group as this seems absurd to me. That's said my family and I are very healthy and have been fortunate to not need expensive health care.

All that said, the US sick care system is a mess. And it's not a free market btw for those centrally planned health system fans. What we have is more like a fascist healthcare system. State manipulating the systems for a few corporations. So called insurance is the root issue.

But even more so, we for the most part live a very unhealthy lifestyle in the US. Look around. You can see it. When I think about it that way it's not surprising.

If Facism triggers you say corporatism or crony capitalism.

I wonder if it means we are getting healthier?

Or is it that we are spending less on other stuff? (Groceries?)

reply

Terrible. This is one reason I don't really consider about moving back to the US. Not just cost, but complicated healthcare.
