The study was performed on blood samples taken from 2016-2017 according to the translation of the quoted publication inside the politico one.

Also, it's in the food and the water:

In 2021 and 2023, the RIVM calculated that people in the Netherlands ingest too much PFAS from food and drinking water. The results of the blood test confirm this.

Kinda sucks. I remember a high profile court case when I was there a couple of years ago saying that the DuPont/Chemours factory near Dordrecht was the biggest source of PFAS. And the publication mentions:

In particular, more PFOA was found among residents from the Dordrecht region than the average in the Netherlands. Around the Western Scheldt, the amount of PFOS in particular was higher.

IIRC there is something about Teflon production and pollution. I'm sure that's not the only site in the world where Teflon is produced tho...
