Following the initial point and main element of your narrative, yes, ‘complex’ isn’t the right word to define a novelty in exchange systems up until now. What’s complex is how it works — the pieces it moves as it grows as a currency alternative. What’s complex are the things it shifts within the standards we have today. Complex because so many things have changed since it first appeared.
That's a great point! I agree that the underlying mechanisms and the broader societal shifts Bitcoin instigates can certainly feel complex as they unfold. My article was really getting at that initial, personal hurdle of engaging with something new, but you're right that the ripple effects and technical intricacies present a different kind of complexity. It's almost like the difference between learning to ride a bike (initially new and a bit wobbly) and understanding the physics and engineering behind how a bike actually works (which is much more complex!). Your analogy is exactly what I meant. lol. The point is that in bitcoin the more you learn its effects the better you protect yourself from bad actors.
