Zohran Mamdani is expected to be the next mayor of New York. He won the Democratic primary — and since Republicans have no power in the city, this practically guarantees victory in November. But the surprise was not only on the right. Until a few days ago, the favorite was Andrew Cuomo, the former governor of the state, known for his more moderate style. Mamdani turned the tide at the last minute with the support of unions, grassroots activists and the most radical wing of the party.

• Born in Kampala, Uganda, son of Marxist intellectual Mahmood Mamdani • Grew up between Africa, India and New York • Became a socialist organizer and entered politics with the DSA (Democratic Socialists of America)

📌 What he advocates: • Defund the police • Tax the rich • Create a “socialist New York” • Reduce police power in poor and racialized communities • Link public policies to identity issues: queer liberation, racial justice, etc.

“Put Jasmine Crockett as president, AOC as vice president, Mamdani as mayor. It would be the definitive end of the USA.”

Why is the right really worried?
