Since its creation, Wallet of Satoshi used a custoodial service but no doubt was (and is) one of the best quick-onboard wallet for bitcoin. With their self-custodial move, it's going to be big.

I'm interested to see how they do it. I haven't used WoS in years.

WoS was my second LN wallet. My first Eclair was too harsh for those days and then I met WoS which was stupidly easy to use.
You should try it. It's a good tool specially to onboard people with little time.

When is it coming to f-droid? When are they open sourcing the wallet code?

iirc the self-custodial is opt-in right? Have they released any details on their backend?
My assumption is their model will be similar to Phoenix's, where you hold the keys but they do the LN heavy lifting, single channel, etc.
