In the midst of my quotidian life, I may miss the small but charming details that make Yishun characterful. Take these seats for instance. They used to serve Singaporeans on MRT trains - and continue to fulfill their mission even after the trains are not longer in service. Repurposed as hangout spots in the void decks of various HDB flats, they serve as an important third space for us residents, stimulating locals to slow down and indulge in palaver or HTHT talks. Both my children honed their Spider-Man-worth climbing skills first, attesting to their utilitarian use.
