@supertestnet has been doing a wonderful job challenging privacy assumptions about Lightning and Monero. Today, Amir Taaki posted this fabulous response to @cguida6 on X:

Super responded with a LN invoice and a challenge to Amir asking what the invoice reveals about the recipient. 🍿️

I always thought that LN had good enough privacy. Lyn Alden did something similar a few ninths ago.

One thing I notice is that Super seems to be on his own here where as monero bro's are all coming in to defend.

Boltz is an interesting case. Depending on how you use it, it can break some chain analysis assumptions.

Yes, I think it can. The conversation about privacy always gets blurry, but there is a truth that the sentence "x is private" is kind of meaningless (or perhaps just untrue).

We should be asking private from who?

Custodians provide excellent privacy from everyone by them (or not if they leak your details).

It's entirely possible that monero is better at hiding your identifying details when you send while lightning is better at it when you receive.

I'm glad super is poking these assumptions.

I think bitcoiners need to think more critically. Asking random people what they can learn about a recipient isn’t any kind of proof that lightning is private.

I'm not saying it isn't private. Just that this is a pretty embarrassing way to try to prove the privacy of anything.

Lightning has been aggressively attacked. Many people who have never used to it are automatically prejudiced against it because of the anti-LN campaigns.

Lightning and monero are both good tools. Lightning can be very private for the sender, the problem is that it takes a lot of skill not to fuck it up. With monero it's the opposite, it takes a lot of skill to not be private.
