Hm Nietzsche. fancy pants. Feel like I've heard it all though Jordan Petersons lectures, and I did start reading Thus Spoke Zarathustra but my elder brother stopped me and said its not that good. Long ago though. I'll read Nietzsche another time. As a rule, I only accept 1 book recommendation per friend. Always the answer to "if you could make me read ONE book youve read in your life, which one would it be?".
I didn't ask that from you before, but now I am. Is the answer still serfdom?
I would be surprised! But I still haven't started reading serfdom so my understanding is incomplete :)
I used to be a left anarchist then a right one now I'm something more weird. I feel where you're coming from. How do you mean evolve? Humans are perfect. We can literally do anything we set out minds to
@TomK fellow austrian, please come laugh with me at this article and everything written. The problem is prices!
The only great civilizations that can exist are the ones where individuals are allowed free speech. This is what happened in greece, it's what happened in the enlightenment.
When you can say "wrong things", you can create new explanations and introduce new ideas.
Our current enlightened era will hopefully not collapse like the greek one did (the dark ages, where the church dictated what could be said). But it might. A lot of people want to tell you "You aren't allowed to say that!".
Marxists, cults (eg. islam). Neo-feminists (i.e. also marxists). But i'm hopeful our current society is stronger than these primitive foolish instincts.
Always feel like questions like these "what kind of music do you like" etc are like asking "What is your favourite color". Not in the sense that it's childish, just that it's a funny thing to do to yourself, arbitrary pigeonholing your tastes.
Looking at my collection I think i like animated movies more than most others. Moana! Road to el dorado! Spiderverse! Akira! Iron Giant!
so thats my favourite color maybe. But oldboy, fuck that is a good movie. The holy mountain, a 2 hour art show. Game night! So fun.
i love good movies!
For sure! Bitcoin is the strongest bet we have right now, I'm all for crypto. I favor Monero over bitcoin, but Monero has many of same problems (and others) that bitcoin has.
One way or another, the central banks and the fiat theft will fall.
Not useless (though obviously not favorable for your business). But you are right, im procrastinating. Thanks
Oh you mean like that! Okay well yeah I did actually know about that (used it to message @Onions yesterday in fact). Thought you meant some stacker.news specific thing
Sure. I'm not gonna argue about semantics, but 99% all of bitcoin being under the thumb of a few developers, well it's not ideal. But then again, what are they gonna do, sneak in a protocol change that benefited them but was almost undetectable? Well I guess maybe. Honestly I don't know enough about bitcoin core to fairly discuss the topic.
Just pointing out that this website is not full to the brim with people who'll tell you this side of the story. (meaning anything negative about bitcoin)
Actually, I was mostly commenting on something unrelated that I was discussing with k00b.
The specifics of the actual privacy of Lightning are far from simple. I was pointing out that it is fairly immoral to create a platform where con-artists (let's let them remain unnamed) with great incentive to lie about their own competence, do just that, when a new user with stars in their eyes wants to speculate away their money on cryptocurrency.
The privacy of lightning is far from solved. It is also difficult to find unbiased sources about it, especially on this website: The person here who could explain the details of how much is handwaved away by DarthCoin with the phrase "No it's private if you know how to use it", is probably @TonyGiorgio. But though his expertise isn't in doubt, he also has incentive to "be bullish" about the state of things.
Here are a few links for @0xbitcoiner about privacy and lightning to show what I mean.
An article that doesn't try to sell it to you:
https://voltage.cloud/blog/lightning-network-faq/lightning-network-privacy-explainer/
A better source, the actual git repo where they propose how to solve privacy concerns (note, still in proposal phase):
https://github.com/lightning/bolts/blob/master/proposals/route-blinding.md
Or the meeting the lightning devs had a few days ago, which also partly concerned privacy.
https://github.com/lightning/bolts/issues/1116
So yes, handwaving OPs question away is not great. But Darth/Nat can do what they want, I don't specifically care about them but more about stacker.news as a whole.
and PS. I don't care about coinjoin over SN at all, whatever that is, I don't use crypto other than in my job and I have no reason to be "pseudonymous". I would like to know how to DM people on stacker though...
In many ways, bitcoin as an application is extremely centralized. Certainly in that everyone (it's like 99% right?) use forks or just simply Bitcoin Core to mine.
And also 4 mining pools own pretty much all mining (3 of them chinese). Not something that Satoshi foresaw. Unsure how it could be solved. Even by other crypto.
