Iiuc that configuration will be going away in a future release. V30 changing the default is just the first step.
Do you know the missing addresses? You could make sure sparrow shows them and increase the gap limit if not.
Another potential issue is if you're using sparrow with bitcoin core you might need to rescan the blockchain if you restored the wallet instead of creating it there.

It's more accurate to say "picking one of the right numbers" which has to be below a certain threshold. Difficulty is how low that threshold is. Imagine a hat with a million numbers in it. Its much easier to find one < 100,000 than finding one <10
