Yeah like I said. Didn't feel like arguing. Why do that when LLM can crank out the words I would have spent 20 minutes typing anyways? Not worth my time to put actual effort into this but we can keep going. Just know you are responding to AI.
I wouldn't do it either. You can't just expect people to be on board without proper foundation. You have hundreds of hours to go with an individual before you even reach that point. Try to put yourself in their shoes.
Doubt it. Humans will war over any resource. All anyone needs to do to fund wars is accumulate a bigger bag than their adversary. Bitcoin just makes the funding source obsolete. It does not stop the funding. As Fallout says. War? War never changes.
You are being dishonest with your knowledge.
The claim that carbon dioxide (CO2) is not a pollutant because it is essential for plant growth is a common argument made by some individuals. However, it oversimplifies the complex nature of CO2 and its effects on the environment. While it is true that plants use CO2 during photosynthesis and that it is necessary for their growth, the issue arises when there is an excessive buildup of CO2 in the atmosphere.
Here are a few points to consider:
Climate Change: Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, meaning it traps heat in the Earth's atmosphere. The increasing levels of CO2 resulting from human activities, such as burning fossil fuels, are a major contributor to climate change. The excessive amounts of CO2 contribute to the greenhouse effect, leading to global warming, rising sea levels, and disruptions in weather patterns. These changes have significant negative consequences for ecosystems, biodiversity, and human societies.
Ocean Acidification: Excess CO2 in the atmosphere is absorbed by the oceans, causing them to become more acidic. This process is known as ocean acidification. Acidic waters can harm various marine organisms, including shell-forming organisms like coral reefs, oysters, and plankton. This disruption can have far-reaching ecological consequences, impacting entire marine food chains and ecosystems.
Health Impacts: High levels of CO2 can have adverse health effects on humans. When CO2 concentrations are elevated indoors, such as in poorly ventilated spaces, it can lead to symptoms like headaches, dizziness, shortness of breath, and impaired cognitive function. While these levels are typically not reached in outdoor environments, the overall impact on climate change and related health consequences are of concern.
It is important to note that the claim about getting rid of all CO2 without negative consequences is misleading. While reducing CO2 emissions is necessary to mitigate climate change, abrupt elimination of all CO2 emissions would have significant economic and social repercussions. Transitioning to cleaner energy sources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions is a complex global challenge that requires careful planning and consideration.
While CO2 is essential for plant growth, the excessive buildup of CO2 in the atmosphere contributes to climate change, ocean acidification, and adverse health impacts. These consequences highlight the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to mitigate these effects while also considering the broader implications of abrupt changes in CO2 levels.
That is the one! I always forget the name of it. It is the best solution that I can think of so far but from what I recall it can still have its own gaps in terms of security. I think the most optimal scenario would be to set up private instances for family and extended family.
If you are capable of doing it yourself, just install Bitcoin Core and Electrs yourself. I use this as a guide but I don't follow some of the recommendations for service security and nginx proxies and stuff. Just need the basics. Incredibly useful guide for learning how to set up anything as a service on Linux actually!
I really didn't find setting everything up difficult. You can take it a step further and get LND set up too. That's easy but managing Lightning stuff is very new to me.
I have tried Start9, Umbrel, and a couple others and my biggest complaint is you install it as an entire OS or docker containers which you cannot configure differently. Like if you want to change the Bitcoin directory. You can do it, but it can lead to some unexpected problems. It is way easier to set up everything yourself if you are capable of doing it.
Umbrel is great for testing, but none of these things I would ever use in any serious capacity
In addition to running your own node, if you want to see what sort of apps you might want to set up yourself check this absolutely massive list out https://github.com/kahun/awesome-sysadmin and https://github.com/awesome-selfhosted/awesome-selfhosted
We all stand on the shoulders of giants. MOON. We took that data and used it to help land things on Mars!
I bet sites have some sort of control over those rules but I have seen it happen randomy with other sites too. It can be super annoying.
Not sure why NPM is more hostile with tor users but it really isn't uncommon. I have only had to deal with it with Google searches but it is so frustrating.
Now that I think about it, 20 prompts is excessive. I wonder if the root issue is actually just a javascript call getting timed out because of latency over tor? That would make more sense to me because If I was integrating some challenge like that I would cap it off at like 3 or 4 to validate it is a human.
Welcome to a nearly impossible problem. Engineering and accounting for human error.
My fellow Bitcoiners will lose their collective shits over this one. I don't blame you. But there will almost always be a need for some sort of non self custody solution. I recall there is a project that basically acts as a federated bank built on Bitcoin but I cannot remember what the project was called. I believe it could be used to help solve this problem.
One of my favorite examples of engineering for humans in this way has to do with how we connect to wifi points. People find managing passwords difficult and barely remember the passwords they use every day. WPS was born. WPS is a compromise in physical network security for convenience for the user.
I think we will need to consider that somewhere along the way, in order to onboard the next hundred million users we will need to figure out compromises so people don't have to worry about the challenges of self custody as much.
I also think when speaking with individual people you need to be very critical about your approach. Self custody is the most secure way to store Bitcoin but it is far from it in the hands of someone who isn't capable of storing anything securely to begin with.
There will always be a group of people that no matter what education you provide them, these concepts will fall flat every time. If Bitcoin is for everyone, then it is our duty to engineer for every edge case we are capable of as well.
To glue all this together, it will require something else that my fellow Bitcoiners will hiss at. Regulation. Else those self custody solutions will get away with all sorts of scammy stuff. Prime Trust ring any bells? I do hope we can engineer clever solutions to avoid this. I think we can figure it out.
Truth is if humans had any interest in self custody of their wealth, we wouldn't have moved away from what we had been doing in the wild west days storing gold in the ground. Over time the prospects of holding your wealth with a custodian became much easier to consider. Convenience over security.
Are you on a VPN or trying to register over TOR? Those are the only secnarios where I have seen recaptacha prompt for more puzzles, if that is the captcha they are using. I am actually not too sure the site itself has any control over that unless they change out the captcha.
It will be unpopular in this space but I think humans have a mandate to be respectful to its enviroment and resources. I understand we need oil and gas and we cant live without all this stuff but I don't understand why it has to be so political to advocate for a cleaner more efficiently ran planet. We don't have to reduce energy consumption. We have to figure out more effective ways to produce denser amounts of energy cleanly.
Any reduction in any negative emissions is a good thing, and we should be mindful about shitting where we eat. I don't think it should be such an extreme thing that we significantly negatively impact peoples lives across the planet while doing it, but I really don't understand how we as a species has gotten to the point where you cannot have any nuance in your stance on these types of issues. You must either be all in one way or the other.
I am so tired of fighting with each other.
Interesting. This appears to be similar to the goals with the Mutiny wallet. Good to know there are multiple projects trying to solve some wallet self custody pain points on LN!
Honest truth there isn't anything different you should do to save in Bitcoin that you would do to save in Fiat.
It is getting too expensive to eat out. If my buddy and I go to any fast food place it runs about 30 dollars for two full meals.
I don't understand how anything in its current trajectory is sustainable.
It is incredible they learned nothing with Skype. Their mismanagement of Skype directly lead to Discord eating their lunch.
Yeah Microsoft isn't going to be a fan of third party solutions. Most platforms want tight control over the data within it so allowing third party apps is out of the question. This also means caring about the user experience when it goes against what the data is saying is not going to happen.
Enshitifcation strikes again.
Yeah I have a stack for that but most of what I have is KYC because it is easier to accumulate in larger amounts.
Actually, the only automatic DCA's I have seen are from KYC places. Is there any way to set up an automated DCA with Bisq or Robosats? That would change everything entirely.
I bet it would be extremely complicated unfortunately.
You are most likely screwed. Business software is even more hostile to users than consumer. I looked around and found a Reddit user who is working on a client alternative https://www.reddit.com/user/divbyda0/submitted/ but when I checked the links he provided it all 404's. You might can reach out to them to see if they can help.
