Russians have used hypersonic missiles before (for example, Kinzhal, which is actually modified Iskander, hypersonic speed is achieved because of air launching with supersonic starting speed) and Ukrainians even managed to shot them down with Patriots. New thing is use of longer range ballistic missile with MIRV (Multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle) payload. Usually these are used only with nuclear warheads and so far no other country has ever used them in actual war.
It's actually not billions spent so much, most of the help for Ukraine is physical armament and ammunition, it is actually cheaper to give it to Ukraine for free than properly utilize it.
But, yes, probably USA should also not have saved UK and others during WWII, to not escalate, Hitler was not the bad guy, pretty sure he would have stopped and not conquered more territories.
NATO's most recent survey of its member country populations showed that even among those nations that are Ukraine's biggest supporters in terms of its war effort against Russia, many constituents disagree with continued support
Russia is working hard, mainly with social media, in this direction, that's the main reason. There are a lot of disinformation regarding this even on SN. And average person is idiot and falls for propaganda.
I have heard jokes from German friends - you should attack Germany Friday evening, they will not fight back until Monday morning, as it's weekend.
P.S. Ukraine destroyed more Russian tanks in first week of full scale invasion than German army currently have in working condition (and AFAIK Rheinmetall have more tanks in their storage than German army).
