Not according to me.
I agree, barely anybody. So it's not a demand bottleneck, it's a supply. Supply being the number of holders with any significant amount that it's worth it to spend. If you're living on anything less than a personal bitcoin standard, it's probably not worth spending your corn as your a pure accumulator.
There is a lack of people holding, though. Best estimates are around 100M (~1% of world pop.) people holding bitcoin. The amount with any substantial holdings is probably much less.
Super excited to see this. It makes a ton of sense that a good majority of users won't or can't self custody their bitcoin. I personally think that having a gradient of custodial options is ultimately a good thing.
BUT
Is this a good enough solution when we should be focusing on great solutions? I don't know what those could be, but I tend to agree with what's being said here.
Trading self custody for anything at this point in bitcoins life seems risky. Sure adoption is higher than ever before, and continuing to grow, but compared to its TAM (i.e. global population), it's tiny.
Are we throwing our weight behind scaling at all costs now, instead of censorship resistance at all costs? Anything that is not self custody introduces new risks around this.
I would agree in theory. But the wallet itself is just not there yet for me. Used it for about 2 months recently and had enough troubles that I went back to my sparrow multisig.
what would multisig easily look like?
muun, breez, blixt can all send/receive seamlessly via on chain or ln, while having just a single balance. are you saying you'd want two different balances?
For sure, I guess that's why I posted, to see what holes there are in the nuance. I am not technically adept enough to understand them.
Isn't combining the CJ & doxxic number one no-no? You basically undo all of the forward privacy/anon by doing that.
I like the second option. You'd lose a small amount of sats but not more than that.
For long term codl hodl, a multisig setup with multiple different HWW manufacturers would be a good start. An example of what this could look like is here. I personally use Sparrow Wallet instead of Specter, though.
If you're looking for just one device, you may consider these:
yeah that's true, can definitely see that. doesn't matter if it's upvotes only or both, the end result is echo chamber type situation.
I like that idea a lot of the default sorting, as long as there's still other options to sort by. so the default is nothing more than a timeline, and if you want to see the "popular" thoughts you can. kinda like the latest tweets vs regular timeline on twitter.
