TL:DR
Federal railroad regulators are in talks with Elon Musk’s tunneling firm, The Boring Company (TBC), over a multibillion-dollar Amtrak project, according to The New York Times.
Citing sources familiar with the matter, the NYT reports that Federal Railroad Administration officials have spoken with TBC to learn whether the Musk-owned company could save the agency money on the Frederick Douglass Tunnel program.
The project, which is being built to connect Baltimore to Washington and Virginia, was initially projected to cost $6 billion, but current estimates suggest it could cost as much as $8.5 billion.
While TBC was one of several companies to be considered for a new engineering contract, the talks raise red flags about Musk’s many conflicts of interest as he splits his time between his companies, his role as President Trump’s right-hand man, and as overseer of DOGE, which has cut resources to agencies that regulate his businesses.

My Thoughts 💭

I used to be excited about the boring company but after years of lack luster results I doubt they can save this tunnel project.
I'm mostly enjoying the irony of them trying to give Musk billions of dollars as he tries to cut billions from their budget.

It is irony but do you think Amtrak will give Musk or any of his companies a big contract in Baltimore and Washington DC? Perhaps NOT! I thought they were the screaming, shrieking donkeys! If you have ever heard donkeys at night in a mountainous valley, you will know what I am saying.

lol, I thought this was meant with Amtrak:
Marines call them "amtracs", a shortening of their original designation, "amphibious tractor".

Haha Amtrak is one of remaining rail companies that Americans can use to travel. They been struggling for years where they rely on government funding to stay in operation the problem with traveling by rail here in America is the cost. It’s a bit cheaper than a flight but the travel time is so much longer .
reply
Yes, you pay either way. You pay either with money or time, you get to take your choice. I must say, though, the scenery is beautiful on some of the train routes.

Doesn't California already have a bunch of underground tunnels?

I haven’t a clue. I was really excited about this company but the only hyperloop on operation is the one in Vegas to my knowledge

Rail construction is very expensive here in the states but if musk’s company can pull this off it would really help wit road construction

Great idea, to entrust a multimillion-dollar tunnel to a guy who hasn't even finished the ones he promised in Las Vegas. Next stop: cost overruns and smoke.

Used to root for this Company, but honestly this tunnel’s too important for another overpromised, underdelivered Musk experiment.

Why is this tunnel too important for Amtrak?

Good question

Who knows? Maybe he has done enough experiments and is ready for real work!
