So far I've tried:
  1. myNode + Zap + Connect via Tor
  2. myNode + Zeus + Connect via Tailscale
Initial connection to the node on both of them when you open the apps are so cartoonishly slow that they aren't practical enough to flip out your phone, open the app, and buy a cup of coffee. Makes me question bitcoins future as a currency tbh.
  1. Archlinux + lnd + Zeus + connect via wireguard

I also use https with a let's encrypt cert.
PS: just realized tailscale is just a wireguard wrapper client. My setup is not far from (1) then ;)

It's slow using Zeus+Taiscale ? Not for me it's pretty fast...It could be better in term of UX, to be able to connect using biometric rather than entering a password though...
How can you question Bitcoin future as a currency with this short experience without noticing where we were 2 years ago and where we are now ? Or you are trolling maybe haha

I see the UI has come a long way but will the connection speeds of these various methods improve?

While you have only few thousand people on earth using lightning right now, you already have offline NFC cards being launch everywhere allowing instant payments. Plus you are speaking about sovereign nodes behind Tor for which VPN solutions already works well enough IMO, but you also can use intermediate sovereign wallets like Phoenix or Breez or Muun or others etc...
You are a little bit pessimistic here I think....

Clearnet + Zeus

I have tried similar to 1. it takes ages for the app to come up and then to pay. this is the price I'm o.k with paying for running everything on my own and being sovereign. for a bit faster and more reliable usage I also use Phoenix with Tor and my own electrum.

Zeus for connecting to a remote node.
Phoenix and Breez and SBW for phone nodes.

How are you connecting to your remote node using Zeus exactly?
reply
Tailscale is the best experience and easiest to setup.

Phoenix Wallet has been working well for me.

I have been using phoenix for few months, I have 2 channels and the experience so far has been excellent.

i have a separate phone running graphene. i use an always-on vpn to connect the phone to my node's subnet.
i use the zeus app to manage the lighting nodes and also use web apps like btc rpc explorer and jam.
you could add most anything else you may need from there. it's fast and secure, but not cheap.

Tailscale + LNBits (+ Bluewallet optionally) is a great option if you are only interested in using wallet features, not managing the node.
If you want to manage the node as well, can't you access ThunderHub or RideTheLightning via web with Tailscale?

Keen to see this one as well
