inscriptions aren’t going away. Without a change in incentives people will continue using the cheapest option. My opinion shift is coming from low adoption of op_return filters, the past couple of years. Without larger adoption (mainly by miners) individuals running knots wont make a difference other than delaying block relay and slowing their own nodes.
Bloat may not be a problem now but in future years, I worry the requirements to sync a full node will increase and deter new node runners.
I don’t agree with or like inscriptions but knots isn’t going to stop them.
btw, the "bloat" is currently 11gb. so not a big deal in my opinion as people start to switch from 1tb harddrive to 2tb for storage.
Storage is not the problem. The problem is that the UTXO set no longer fits into memory on low-end systems. Thus slowing down the node since it has to access the disk more often now.
