typical cats. I've spent a lot of money on fancy toys and boxes for cats... they literally don't give a fuck. They like more the "garbage toys" (literally papers and cardboards) than all other "commercial toys". So I stopped wasting money on them.

Yep, for our cats, we make toys of strings, straws and toilet paper centers and they just love them. We have also stuffed used baby socks with soft stuff and catnip that we renew every so often, they won’t quit with those, either.

Oh cool idea with socks!

Yes, we use old baby socks that have seen their day.
We use old socks for adults, another way. We put long grain rice in until the sock is about 2/3 full and tie it with non-metallic string, like twine. Then we heat it in the microwave until it is hot but not hot enough to burn the skin. Then we use it as a hot pack on sore muscles and joints. it works wonders to relieve the pain. You can use it over and over again without refilling the rice. We’ve used some for about five years, so far.

Yes, you should see the rabbiting action they do when they aren’t stroking the sock with their head or licking it! It is quite amusing to us, anyway. I imagine the cats are getting a bit high, though.
All of those fancy cushions and “cat nooks” don’t work half as well as cardboard boxes, paper bags and newspaper to sit in and on. Our cats are just not interested in any of the store bought toys unless they are stuffed to the gills with catnip.

They follow Natural law of simplicity :) You can't just bribe them and expect them to recognize you as their owner and respect you or obey your orders they just don't give a shit. Man, cats are more sovereign than I thought 😮
