Give me a reason.

Stacking sats isn't one...

Because we don’t censor you like Reddit and we aren’t infested with fucking low level mouth breathing piss mop idiots who can downvote you at no cost.

that's what I wanted to hear, thanks

Reasons I do/would do it:

  • to know people cared enough about replying that they paid to do it
  • to know that people like what I did/think enough to give me something that they value
  • because I don't have a large following on follow-based social media apps and I will likely get no visibility or replies otherwise (ie a level playing field)
  • because I see the system as relatively virtuous/meritocratic and I find earning my place in such a system relatively validating
  • I think bitcoin can be used to solve problems other than store of value and commerce and this one of few places experimenting with that and I'd like to see it grow and such experiments grow
  • I hate ad-based social media and realize that anything I'm using that is free now will likely enshittificate itself with ads/data-mining, so I want to support/be somewhere that does not have that destiny
  • I'm highly skilled at tasteful writing, and/or finding great things to learn/read, relative to other people, and want to earn some pocket change
  • I like people that show up to a weird website for the above reasons and I want to spend time with them and help bring more people like them here (even if there aren't many yet)

Man, some elaborate and eloquent reasons. Maybe I should start using SN more

reply

Great question!

reply

I'd like to see more great answares. What values SN brings, why post here is better than HN (for example) or any other competitor in your business plan?

by the way, who do you consider a "competitor"? I know isn't nostr

reply

I haven't participated as much on HN, but here on SN you will find a greater diversity of topics, and you'll find people with more libertarian leanings and people who like bitcoin

reply

I admire @ek's posts welcoming newbies. In the other side @DarthCoin kicking assmilkers out the @saloon main door and tagging shitcoiners bios with his knowledgeable meme force. I'm intrigued by these contrasts.

Does look to you SN is only for people that agree with these values and ideologies? Could a democrat, socialist or communist be welcomed here as libertarians and anarchists are?

I hope that people don’t leave SN single-handedly because of Darth 💀

I found the whole political spectrum here on SN, maybe some can be more vocal than the others, either way remember that bubbles are everywhere, here too

reply

There's no "political spectrum". It is more simple:

  • you are statist slave
  • you are a sovereign individual

Just that. Anybody hiding behind a political movement is a fucking statist that all his life will be slave, no matter how much will scream " freedom".

reply

There only one "politic": bitcoin.

I see other forums as "competitors": Reddit/HN/LessWrong/Delving/BitcoinTalk. Basically, places that share our format/style of social media and/or provide the same kinds of content/learning/connection.

Of course, I don't view all of these as competing with us, but I do think about their "systems" and why/how/if they attract people when we do not.

As public social media gets destroyed by AI bots, I suspect our "competitors" will will increasingly be apps that have great private group chats.

reply

Funny enough, it feels like none of these other platforms get affected by AI bots, or maybe they do and have good moderation system and mods doing the hard work.

Browsing SN sometime I notice outlaw content and not sure why as been tagged that way.

reply

When other platforms don't like stuff they delete it. When stackers don't like something, they pay to "downzap" it and get it marked as outlawed (which can be reversed by other stackers paying to "upzap" it). Outlawed items are still viewable to people with "wild west mode" on in their settings.

reply

Community moderation: can we define it like this? It's a great feature!

reply

I sometimes call it "group moderation" but community moderation works too.

want to earn some pocket change

nearly falling into the stack sats topic

reply

I want to post SOMEWHERE. I have a lot to say, and I enjoy writing, and getting feedback. People here are generally on the same wavelength.

I love the sats, I love zapping other stackers for well written posts and comments. And then so many of the other sites are trash. Reddit, Facebook, etc.

Take Facebook. There's a HUGE carnivore group there (World Carnivore Tribe) and it has all kinds of interesting info. BUT trying to find that into, trying to find the good comments is so hamstrung by the fact that YOU ARE THE PRODUCT. And absolutely everything about the Facebook UI is pointed towards one goal. That goal is--having you spend as much time as possible on the site, so you can be shown ads. And that's it.

So naturally, it makes the Facebook experience crappy, you're constantly being hijacked by clickbait. I hate using it, though I need to occasionally.

reply

V4V mainly, source of some good tech info, tricks and tips, latest news, satire, some priceless comments from few sarcastic bastards...lol Have fun... that's what I can think of right now

reply

another great one! Thanks

reply

Sn is great for asking questions. Lots of knowledge on here and most are engaging and will help out unlike other platforms where you can be overlooked or ignored

reply

Because I'ld rather share my Q&A time with those who are mostly tip of the spear, rather than with those who are a boil on the ass (i.e., most of those on r/TimesuckWithNoBenefit, Stack_FuckoffSomeoneElseAskedThatAlready_OverFlow, etc.)

reply

Did not even know those existed!

How do you get so many referrals?

reply

By referrals, do you mean the "sats stacked" on my profile? Or ... ?

reply

No I mean referrals accounts... just realized I confused your nym/avatar! I pass the question to @cryptofolyo

reply
  1. You want to communicate something to Stackers
  2. You want feedback on something from Stackers
  3. You want to support the platform
  4. You enjoy interacting with stackers
reply

how you define stackers? assuming you are referring to all SN users

reply

Sure, we can load any nuance into "users".

reply

can you define stacker? are there different type of stackers? or just stackers, lurkers, anons and cowboys?

reply

I think of stackers as those who feel like part of a community based on Stacker News. If lurkers and anons feel that way, then I include them.

reply

Isn't about me including them or not, more knowing how and if you differentiate between stackers types

reply

I meant that I include them in how I use the term.

reply

Stacker news was my first source of information for btc ecosystem at the begining, thanks cos many of you posted guides, questions and solutions. Somehow we gotta make easy the way for new stackers and elaborate the topics already mentioned on SN for the experienced cowboys.

Why not?

It's a good community to share ideas with.

It is fun

This is the shortest and best answer I got. Thanks! Can you elaborate why?

Thought provoking conten and communication is fun to me.

because I want to reach stackers here and see if someone can respond something different

fair enough

reply

You want based and smart opinions

reply

That's what I'm getting. Whish I could get more elaborated answers

reply

Share knowledge and experiences. Receive feedback and points of view, like you. Have fun

reply

Though I'm not @Undisciplined but I agree with his comment

reply

You worded that very suspiciously

reply

Thanks and that's cos I'm actually not @Undisciplined . 🤗 lol

reply

is a community like no other, the added value you get to participate here goes far beyond stacking a few Sats. Here you learn from the work of others, even from mistakes too, you learn from other people's experiences and that is vital to have your own experiences.

is a separate world, a place to deposit, share, find, receive, give, deliver value.

Here's the reason, beyond stacking sats:

Stacking sats isn't one...

Certainly if one does not have a wallet attached and does not engage enough to earn rewards.

reply

You give for granted people know what wallet refers to, and how it can be done successfully.

I know. We are working on stuff related to this.
