I came here before I saw it was a beginner bounty.
The biggest myth in bitcoin is that there are three monetary functions, when the truth is there are four. Unit of Account actually is measure of value and standard of value, which are two separate things.
Calling mnemonics "seeds". Saying seeds are phrases composed of words, while a seed is a sequence of bytes derived from mnemonics and optionally a passphrase; it is never converted back into a human-readable dictionary or language.
Many people conflate bitcoin with crypto. They hear bitcoin and their knee-jerk reaction is to associate it with the grift and scams talked about wrt fartcoin etc.
It's also unbelievable how strong the 'they're boiling the oceans' psy-op is.
Congrats @VEINTIUNO, and thank you everyone for participating in this. I believe my students will enjoy the deep knowledge you share. I'm bringing another SN Beginners Bounty next week
Ok. Here's quote from Wiki:
"A cryptocurrency (colloquially crypto) is a digital currency designed to work through a computer network that is not reliant on any central authority, such as a government or bank, to uphold or maintain it.
Individual coin ownership records are stored in a digital ledger or blockchain, which is a computerized database that uses a consensus mechanism to secure transaction records, control the creation of additional coins, and verify the transfer of coin ownership."
