State flags with seals on blue backgrounds are often criticized. Some flags frequently cited as “worst” include Florida, Maryland, and Massachusetts. In fact, the North American Vexillological Association (NAVA) has ranked flags like Minnesota's 51st due to their busy, generic nature. Critics dislike these designs for being too similar to each other. While New Mexico's flag is often praised, flags like Indiana, Tennessee, and Washington are often brought up as examples of poor design because of their seal-based approach. Also many critics, including vexillologists, tend to call out flags with state seals on blue fields as some of the worst. The flag of Florida, with its state seal on a red cross, is often cited for being too cluttered and lacking good design principles. Flags like those of Missouri, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky also get negative feedback due to their seal-heavy designs. Florida keeps coming up in these critiques, so I think it makes a strong case for being a "worst" flag with its overly detailed and “messy” design.

The flag essentially places a detailed state seal on a plain field (a red saltire on a white background) 😂. This kind of “seal on a bedsheet” design is a frequent culprit in flag design critiques, as the intricate seal doesn’t scale well making it hard to recognize from a distance. I mean, who even approved such a lame idea, they could wait for better designers.
Good flag design is usually built on simplicity and memorable imagery. Florida’s flag, however, is packed with detail, making it less instantly recognizable and harder for the average person to recall or describe.
The design feels too generic to me compared to the vibe of Florida. A great flag should give off an immediate sense of identity and pride, but many feel that this flag falls short in capturing the dynamic spirit of the Sunshine State.

New Jersey - Pretty atrocious color scheme. It also looks like the woman on the left has Where’s Waldo’s hat hanging from her spear. We may have finally figured out where Waldo is (was?).
