The solution is NOT to fix Chivo.
The solution is to use open source wallets.

Both would be nice.
Bukele has established schools and classes to teach Bitcoin to the next generation. I think this will lead to a generational shift to open source wallets and away from Chivo in El Salvador. But it will take time. In the meantime, Chivo is great for onboarding the boomers and less educated crowds in that country and/or any country in the future that adopts a Bitcoin Standard.

An account (not a wallet) that sucks is not a great onboarding experience man come on!
reply
Ok, yea. I concede. I'm not an expert on the inner workings of Chivo wallet. I just know the majority of the world needs a little help with onboarding. These are people who don't even use banking apps because they don't use banks! They need a lot of support, and maybe Chivo is a good middle-ground way of providing some support in these early adoption days? But I dunno.... I'll read up on Chivo more.

Chivo is a centralized wallet, a very good option is to open and use non-custodial wallets or those that the user prefers. Likewise, train in the use of these, it is always good to have and use more than one LN wallet

What a mess. the lady working at the front desk of the hotel shouldn't have to know or care. Wonder what chivo is trying to do there.
reply
I wonder who is powering Chivo's onchain txs if River is behind the Lightning support.
reply
Chivo is a scam. People should use other solutions for Bitcoin.
In a sense, it being so bad is good for the people, because you don't want a strong government led wallet dominating the market.
So kudos to Chivo for being so bad. There are a lot of better sovereign solutions to store Bitcoin.
reply
Chivo is literally a govt issued wallet and people are surprised it doesn't work, or that it takes your money w/o consent. Go figure.
reply
No wonder adoption in El Salvador went down over time when Chivo still sucks ass over a year later. If I wasn't into Bitcoin I'd get frustrated too.
reply
So the lady in the hotel needs to learn how to verify transactions on the block chain.
Maybe she was trying to scam by sending a screenshot of canceled transaction?
reply
can't tell if you're joking
