My off the books only pay in cash plumber is “suggesting” I replace my natural gas water heater. The water heater is well past its design life of 12 years but it’s working just fine. The water is so hot I had to adjust it. So I asked for a quote and he provided me the following
As you can see he gave me the quote almost two years ago 😅 and I still haven’t replaced it yet. I was thinking I’ll replace it once it’s finally broken. Am I playing with fire? Will I have a week of no hot water once it suddenly fails?
Is this price reasonable? Or is he trying to hustle me?
What do you think stackers?

I replaced a 40 gal gas with no power vent about 5 years ago, the total was about $1800. So 50 gal with power vent I would guess may add another grand or so.....but well that doesn't factor in inflation.

When it breaks, replace it with a Bitcoin mining water heater.

If it ain't broke , literally don't fix it

Well you can grab that list and search the prices yourself then ask a specialized person who can do it how much it costs only to mount everything in place. At least you might save some money buying the stuff yourself. Might give you a headache but can potentially save you some hard earned money.

If it is working fine you shouldn't replace it. I am in the same boat. I do need to replace mine soon though because it isn't heating as well as it used to. No long hot showers.
Seems kind of pricey to be honest. Water heaters aren't that expensive.
