Is Ledger safe still?
Clearly my data got leaked because I keep getting spam trying to get my bitcoin, associated with some Ledger leak. Is my BTC safe in my hardware wallet, given I keep my keys to myself, or should I transfer it elsewhere? If so, what is a safer option?
(OP on Reddit, I will post a link to this post for them to get the good info from the stacker news community)
what is a safer option?

better then being on exchanges. Where would you suggest they move it too?
💯

No
The Bitcoin is safe as long as u never upgrade the firmware. But that alone makes it unsafe

People often disregard Trezor because they aren't 100% Bitcoin-only, but they are a good option.
They have a long history in bitcoin (pretty sure they created the BIP39 standard), they are more affordable than ColdCard, and they seem much more privacy-focused than ledger.
You can also get their latest devices with Bitcoin-only firmware if you wish.

Is my BTC safe in my hardware wallet
it isn't in your wallet. there are no bitcoins.
your wallet is a signing device
the seed words are used to generate a big number which is used to derive the the addresses paired with private keys.
your UTXO collection is the list of transactions addressed to you. the sum of amounts of those UTXOs is your sat balance.
the UTXO record is derived from the blockchain. That's where your TX data is stored.
get a new hardware wallet if you want, but all you need is the words.

Ledger was never safe.
It’s always been a garbage honeypot 🍯

What device would you recommend

If you just want to buy a HWW, I would suggest ColdCard Q.
If you are more hands-on and want to build your own, I strongly suggest looking into SeedSigner.

I still have a ledger but I transferred most of the Bitcoin out.

Bitcoin only device maker. I like the coldcard made by coinkite but if you want to go a bit cheaper you can get a blockstream jade.
