You can now use lightning to pay for the Mullvad VPN which adds another layer of privacy to this provider.

Seems they run a private node which is only routing through the Kraken node.

I've always paid for mullvad with lightning using: https://vpn.sovereign.engineering/

They also have a tor site: http://soveng42aj6ynynkqeyut2dwnmwou45epfpuwvjy2t45fpxn3dk2ymad.onion/

This guy might go out of business once Mullvad's lightning payments are out of beta :/

he's a legend and working on his own vpn. https://obscura.net/

reply

yeah, true :( I don't know if this was a good business to be honest.

reply

I think it was just a side venture anyway

reply

yep. Was helpful anyway. Way easier and more private to pay with LN.

reply

Yeah, but that's not directly...

reply

you can get a voucher there which is also quite nice.

reply

Thanks for sharing, it's good to know, although in my particular case I happily pay for the VPN via 🥷

It's a good start.

Why run it through Kraken though?

reply

Why not? Obviously they won't be opening channels to every client they have. And they need to decide on SOMEONE to peer with. So the good choice is picking someone with a lot of liquidity and good connectivity - like exchange.

reply

Of course not to every client. But would be nice if they had a public node where clients can open channels to them.

reply

From what I could see is that they run their own private node but behind the Kraken node. Don't know why it is not public (yet).

reply

This is great news. However, I am unable to select the number of months. I can only purchase one months extension using LN right now.

reply

Maybe that is because of the beta phase.
