Announcements

Welcome to this week’s newsletter.
It’s the start of a new year. Change is in the air. I am guessing there will be plenty of need for some how to guides and basic lessons to be posted in this territory. This week we had some good posts, though zapping was a little light. Let’s get those sats and cowboy credits flowing.
Happy New Year! Happy Genesis Block Day! Happy Cowboy Credit Day!
Thanks to everyone who contributed, and have a good week.

Top 5 Posts Of The Week

There will be a zap award for the top 5 posts weekly. It will be broken down as follows:
  1. 1000 sats (or higher if threshold is met)
  2. 250 sats (or higher if threshold is met)
  3. 250 sats (or higher if threshold is met)
  4. 250 sats (or higher if threshold is met)
  5. 250 sats (or higher if threshold is met)
If the average daily territory income exceeds 2000 sats in a given week, THAT amount will be split among the winners.
Average daily territory income this week: Below threshold
Threshold: 2000
Therefore, the awards will will not be boosted this week.
Posts will be judged using SN zaprank. The cut off time is 9:00am EST (1300GMT) Friday morning. I will post the top 5 winners shortly after 9:00am every Friday morning.
I reserve the right to not award any sats for the week. I also reserve the right to deny sat awards to bare link posts. I recognize that link posts can be valuable, so I will only only exercise discretion for low quality links that garner few sats or engagement from stackers.

This Week’s Winners:

DarthCoin Posts

Learning Resources

The White Paper

Everyone knows about the white paper, but have you read it? Here is the pdf.

DarthCoin’s Guides

DarthCoin is a somewhat controversial figure with a manner that may take some getting used to, but I think his guides are excellent as step by step instruction. The sentence structure might be unconventional, and he may express some strong opinions, but you will learn what he has set out to teach you. Here is a link to DarthCoin’s Substack Page, where you can find all of DarthCoin’s guides: https://darthcoin.substack.com/

Rexdentron’s Ecosystem Map & Posts

@Rexdentron has created a comprehensive ecosystem map. I believe he intends to keep this list updated Beginners will benefit from checking it out, as will experienced bitcoiners.

Why Bitcoin Only

Why Bitcoin Only is a massive trove of links, where you can find just about anything you’re looking for. It’s also fun to browse around.

Top Posts Of All Time

Here you will find a few of the top posts that have been posted to this territory. I am not going to adhere to a rigid zaprank system, since my purpose is to highlight content that has educational value. I will use an informal combination of zaprank and my own evaluation. For instance, some posts, though of high quality, are solely about Stacker News, and might have more appropriately originated as a meta post.
Thank you so much for mentioning my post 😄 I couldn't believe it!

You did a great job pulling a bunch of important questions together.
Having @DarthCoin's answers in the comments makes this a really useful post for new (and old) bitcoiners.
reply
Thank you so much! I'm glad newcomers will find it useful.

You earned it. I just reward the top posts by zaprank. Congratulations!

Thank you! It was all your support; I could make that post because of you. And thanks to Darthcoin, who showed his best guides I could ever find, and that too for free! For anyone like me who wants to get started, it’s just like the Bible.

Is a very good post with pertinent questions that must be answered. Knowledge is power.

I’m not sure this qualifies as a tutorial, but today I came across @plebQR and decided to write this #835356

You just gave me an idea. Maybe I will create a category just focused on attached wallet posts.
reply
That will help many newbies!
reply
Perhaps you want to collect them if you have time and make a post? Then, I will incorporate the list into the newsletter?
reply
II can do that. I notice other stackers have written similar guides. I'll search around and collect them in a post here in ~bitcoin_beginners.
Today is the perfect day to do it! Here you go #835262

This is the first time I am aware of this newsletter! This is a cool one! Can I subscribe to the newsletter? Also, thank you for mentoring me and rewarding me! I will try to keep up the good work!
reply
Thanks for the kind words. There is no subscription available outside of the SN site. It is published every Friday morning. You earned the mention (and the zaps) because your post had a good zaprank score. Congratulations!
reply
Wow can’t believe I was mentioned! Thanks!

Thinking about switching ecosystem map update frequency to quarterly instead of monthly, wdyt ?
Also need some ideas beside adding version update & changelog btw
reply
I think you are in the best position to make that determination. I get my awareness of the ecosystem from you! I really have to believe some sort of editable post is on the horizon, and then this will no longer be an issue. You should bug @ek about it after they're done with today's big switch. I posted about it recently and was told it would be soon. I think there is an open PR for one that hasn't been addressed yet.
