  • Starts for buildings with five or more units dropped 12.6% year over year to a seasonally adjusted rate of 326,000 in October, according to a monthly report from HUD and the U.S. Census Bureau. They rose by 9.8% from September.
  • Multifamily developers completed an annualized 615,000 apartments in buildings with five or more units in October, a 61.4% YOY jump and a 9% decrease compared to September.
  • At the end of October, 804,000 units were under construction, a 19.2% YOY decline and a 3.5% month-over-month decline.

Do you know SRO buildings? I wish they would build more of those. I think so many people would be interested in that if it was profitable to the builders.

It is a single room occupancy. It means it is just a room in a building that is rented out. Usually you share a bathroom and kitchen.

Hostels are a bunch of beds in a room, right? SROs are similar to dorms, I guess.

Hostels lack the prestige of Motel 6.
Single room occupancy is fine if you are in college or early 20s.
Shared bathroom is a dealbreaker for me. I don't like sharing a bathroom with family lol

I think it depends on how clean everyone is. And if there is a janitor that cleans them? In theory, it is just a place to sleep. You arent doing much there.
