I know this is probably my fourth or fifth request over the last few years. I know that wallets kept everyone occupied, but I really think there is a need for some sort of editable post on SN, so that content can be updated and kept current. I have a particular selfish need for this in two of my territories, but I'm sure other stackers would find this type of post useful too.
@ek, @DarthCoin and I have talked about this previously.
So have other stackers:
Is anything in the works?
Yes, I would like that to happen. For long posts, tutorials or even @Rexdentron lists are useful to update. I myself I found that some of my guides are obsolete and needs to be updated. This is what I am doing now, reviewing my guides (on github) and update some and also translating in 8 languages. It's amazing to see how fast things are changing...
Indeed endless editable posts could also end up in scams. For that I will propose a fee for edit a post older than x days. MAKE THEM PAY.

on github
This is the right way of managing your content.
Changes are tracked in a central location and you can copy/paste from there to SN.
What goes on SN needs to remain immutable like transactions on the chain.

I am going to create a dedicated section only for the guides I post on SN. I have some that are posted only on SN and not on Github.

I think a history of edits is enough to protect against abuse.
What kind of scams are you imagining perpetual edits would allow?

oh boy... options are endless. SN it just started... lots of scammers will join when they see that there's a cow to milk with gullible readers.
History of edits could help yes, but also "pay to edit". When they have to pay is hard to scam.

You said 'options are endless' but didn’t mention a single option that is not already possible without perpetual edits

If they already change their bio from a shitcoiner to pretend to be a bitcoiner, imagine what is going to do with posts. I am already tired of making screenshots.

Damn, I noticed a few days ago that you haven’t reminded us in a while and thought it would be funny to remind you but I forgotten. I also wasn’t sure if you would also think it’s funny. I have an art for faux pas 👀
Is anything in the works?
Still not 🙈 Most of the stuff that wasn’t wallet related this year was done by contributors and so far nobody picked this feature request up even though there is a 1m sats bounty on it.

I noodled a bit more on this feature and added this comment to the ticket:
Additionally to what @k00b mentioned: I think edits within 10 minutes should be merged into a single history entry. This way, we would keep the existing familiar UX of edits with the 10m edit timer without history and it would limit spamming the history with noisy entries if you want to "edit your edit".
This means we would have a 10 minute timer after each edit, too.
edit: but mhh, if the edit window resets after each edit, it might be possible to perpetually edit an item without ever creating any history entry 🤔
