Next attempt at mentioning something pseudo-intellectually confusing.
Similar to #816528, I wonder if people understand what I want to say, this time it’s this sentence:
Don’t be a pendulum, be a compass.
me trying to quote myself into history books
this territory is moderated
my take:
A compass points to something and is steady, but it does only one thing.
You gotta be like Jack's magic compass and follow what it is you want most, just be smart about it.

Oh wow, I totally forgot about Jack's magic compass! That's definitely more the compass I imagined.

I always liked the various MacGuffin's in the PoTC trilogy; the compass, the Black Pearl, the Flying Dutchman, Davy Jones' heart, the kraken, the pieces of eight.

Nice one.

Being like a pendulum can mean changing your mind all the time, I'm not sure if it's worse than a compass (which goes round in circles).

Mhh yes, but a compass at least always points to something? 👀

The pendulum always points to the center of the Earth.

Oh, good point!

It depends on your point of view, I don't like going round in circles, i.e. changing and coming back to the same thing. Life is made up of changes and that makes us stronger, even with some suffering along the way.

I must bring back the Discuss this Quote series so we can analyze the meaning of ek's musings.
A compass directs you where to go where as a pendulum swings back and forth so to me this evokes knowing where you want to go and reminding yourself rather than swinging back and forth from thing to thing.

So it was you that zapped it and made it pop into my notifications and mind again. Thanks.

My favorite metaphor for feelings is a compass, so it evokes not wanting to have mood swings.

A compass only shows you which direction you are headed. A pendulum can be used to divine the location of water, minerals, spirits, etc.

Have a clear focus that cuts through the noise and chaotic cycles that surround us.

Both are responding to forces of nature
The pendulum is in a constant state of imbalance rocking back and forth never agreeing on a fixed point.
The compass responds to nature by pointing towards a constant signal.
maybe.....

The proverbial pendulum swings left and right with people's changing attitudes towards the role of government. Compass points north, because of physical properties, like a convicted bitcoiner points toward the truth.
reply
a pendulum is all over the place, flip flopping, whereas a compass is about heading in the direction you know you need to go, pursuing a goal with focus, and not deviating and being a cuck pendulum lol
