What do you think? Other then the first couple movies back in the 70s, star wars is super duper lame right?
@darthcoin and @ObiJuanCoinobi. Will you please help me understand star wars. And who is cooler, Darth or Obi?
Like if there was a contest for coolest star wars character, who would win?
As an adult, I've never thought Star Wars was good. I've enjoyed a couple of entries, but I don't like any of the nine episodes.
I've never heard of @ObiJuanCoinobi, but I doubt he's done anything to rival Darth's guides and commitment to the bit.
reply
IMO, the best Star Wars properties are actually things outside the main 9 movies.
X-Wing, Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2, were all awesome video games.
More recently, Mandalorian S1 and Andor were great TV shows, though most of the other recent stuff has been pretty meh.
reply
I wasn't even thinking about the games. Some of those are quite fun. I also enjoyed a Han Solo book trilogy when I was kid.
I agree with you about those two shows. The others that I saw were quite bad.
reply
I enjoyed rogue squadron and shadows of the empire on n64, back in the day. Also there were snes games based on the old trilogy that were super cool platformers. I am old now I suppose

Andor was based
reply
I'm just mad that Andor showed what's possible, then they go and make junk like Acolyte
reply
Wow. I don't know there were so many episodes. crazy. I think I have seen 4 of them and then I stopped after the first new one was sooo bad.
I've never heard of @ObiJuanCoinobi
Yeah. He is new here, I guess...
reply
Very cool name, but so is Darthcoin.
reply
Great names for sure.

Mandalorian is pretty good IMO

I think only the first 2 seasons were good. Third season sucked dick.
reply
I have heard that. I haven't watched it.

I have to go @anon for this.
I used Star Wars as a way to sleep with a girl. We both hadn't seen the 2 trilogies when we were kids. As adults, we agreed to start watching it together. During the first movie, thinking it was boring, we ended up sleeping together for the first time. I offered to watch the next episode a few later or so, with the same consequence. Noticing a pattern, I repeated this approach 4 more times, with the clear intent of never actually finishing any of the episodes. This relationship did not go further after finishing the 2 trilogies.
A friend, a huge Star Wars fan, refused to talk to me for a few months after I told him about this.
reply
Did you reach out to her again when the new trilogy was released?
reply

We actually stayed in touch after this event but went back to simply being friends. We were not at the same place in our lives. It wasn't my proudest moment as a horny guy, looking back.
And when the new trilogy came out, we were no longer living in the same city.

So, in a way, Star Wars did "suck" for you...

I've never watched it. Does it still hold up to this day?
reply
I like episode 4 the best. That's the only one I like to rewatch.

Do i have to watch all of them?
reply
No. Not at all. It's a vast universe it seems. The og trilogy from the 70s is probably a good start. But that's just my opinion.
reply
Empire Strikes Back was my favorite then Star Wars
Return of the Jedi was ok
I didn't watch the others
reply
Empire is pretty solid. You never watched episode 4?
reply
I saw 4, 5 and 6 but skipped the others

Hit or miss. I like some of the movies and some of the tv shows but there are a lot of duds too.
reply
I can see that. It's hard for me to want to take a chance.

I wouldn’t say Star Wars sucks! The first trilogy was good, in fact, groundbreaking in the sci-fi movies field. The second trilogy was spotty, I thought two were good and the first one not, so good. I couldn’t finish the last trilogy because of the butchered concepts and Mary Sue. Since then I have only seen the two other films, two prequels that I thought were pretty good. I haven’t watched any of the streaming, animated or TV programs since the second of the third trilogy.
reply
I didn't realize there was so much star wars stuff out there. I kind of think Disney is evil so maybe I am surely biased against the new stuff.
reply
Why not be biased against their stuff, they are evil and they are decimating the Star Wars IP. I consider it as dead as a doornail. I won’t bother watching any more than I have now.

My only canon is StarWars under Lucas and not Disney
reply
The good ol days.
reply
I remember I watched anything "Star Wars", it felt so boring that I never tried to watch again.
So, for me all of Star Wars sucks!!
reply
Most of them feel that way for me. I like the og first move ever quite a bit, episode 4
reply
I never really got into it. I probably should have watched them when they came out.
reply
Have you watched the old ones at all?
reply
I tried 4 and 5 later on in life, if I recall well.

I wish they would have followed some of the books more closely. There was a lot of good material there. Grand Admiral Thrawn and the Katana fleet. The xwing series.
reply
The tends to be the case, the books are usually better than the movies.

I’m about to drop the ban hammer on you, Dave.
I have the high ground.
All jokes aside. I’m not a fan of Disney SW but I’m such a cult fan that I will always watch pretty much whatever they publish.
When Bitcoiners are so fucking rich that we can buy Disney, then we can fix the franchise and bring balance back to the force.
reply
Sounds like a good plan. Disney is evil in my opinion.

Super fucking evil.

At worst, it's a well financed substrate for exploring scifi concepts. I think there are some big ideas in it too that are worth thinking about. Like, the unintended consequence of removing one evil ("balancing the force") can sometimes bring more and other evils.
reply
Interesting. 🤔

FWIW I've enjoyed most of the movies and shows, but I'm also a huge scifi fan and I'm a sucker for classical story structures (good vs evil, hero journeys, etc).
reply
I tend to light hero's journey stories. Sci Fi not so much. Maybe there is more there for me to look into.

I guess SN hates Star Wars?
The original trilogy is excellent. The prequel trilogy is also great, yes it's cheesy and full of memes but I still love watching it (yes, even The Phantom Menace).
In conclusion, ALL SIX of the main movies are pretty good.
The other media cam be hit and miss but there's some good stuff out there like Rogue One (movie), The Mandalorian (TV show), The Clone Wars (cartoon), and The Force Unleashed (video game).
reply
4 was good. 5 was great. 6 was ok. 1, 2 and 3 sucked in such indescribable ways, especially after waiting over 15 years for them to come out. One of the most satisfying early youtube videos for me was this takedown of episode 1: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5919C8DE6F720A2D It's so old that it had to be broken into 10 minute chunks because that was the limit on YouTube back then. There are similar takedowns of 2 and 3 by the same guy.
But then, it got worse and 7, 8 and 9 somehow made 1, 2 and 3 look reasonable, which still amazes me. I haven't watched 8 or 9, but if they can make 1, 2 and 3 look ok, they must be truly dreadful indeed.
But yea, 4 is basically a modern retelling of Kurasawa's classic The Hidden Fortress. Seriously, the plot is very similar, down to the perspective of the two lowest characters, which Lucas admitted he ripped from the movie. 5 was the real gem, in my view.
reply
Anything based off Kurosawa's work is ok with me.

Not mostly, totally.
I had never got bored on a cinema until I tried watching one of those. I've never got bored again.
Least entertaining, interesting, or engaging movie I've ever watched.
I like Sci-Fi movies, though.
