What are some games you like coming back to replay?

like most adult gamers i have a backlog and work through it gradually, but quite often, after finishing a big game, i will take a month or two off before starting a new one and revisit something nostalgic, for me it's usually duke nukem 3d (playing that is almost like meditation), classic street fighters or command and conquer games (sometimes other RTS games)

at the moment I'm replaying the Resident Evil remakes, fantastic games, i really, really hope they reboot the first game and some of the others like zero, code veronica etc

Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Super Mario RPG StarCraft and Brood Wars expansion Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

And recently Black Myth: Wukong

i am a huge zelda fan, finished botw 2 this year and loved it, really enjoyed the skyward sword remake too.

i really want a remaster of oot or twilight princess

reply

I really enjoyed TOTK as well, but it didn't wow me as much as BOTW, maybe because I was already spoiled by BOTW.

I remember shaking that Wiimote like a mad man while attacking in Twilight Princess haha.

reply

i will say i quite enjoyed the feeling of slashing about with the wiimote, but the motion controls on skyward sword pissed me off, especially when controlling the bird lol replay on switch was much less rage-inducing!

reply

I never got far in Skyward Sword. I think I only completed the first dungeon, but I think I got distracted with other games and never went back to finishing it. I should really revisit it and finish it, especially I have it on both Wii and Switch...

Super Mario World

reply

cant go wrong with the classic platformers on the snes

reply

I lost count how many times I've gotten 96* on that game replaying on my SNES when I was a kid. I recently also did a run of this game on the Switch SNES emulator, but realize my memory is fading and forgot some of the secrets. Took some thinking to remember the secrets in order to get the 96*.

I can't seem to stop replaying Cyberpunk. Unlike a lot of people, I loved this game when it released, and it's only gotten better since.

reply

that's on my list when i upgrade to a ps5

reply

I would strongly recommend getting it along with the DLC (Phantom Liberty). Without spoiling anything, the DLC adds a huge amount of story content that's incredibly rich and fleshed out, and it is designed to be played alongside the main storyline of the game.

reply

nice, witcher 3 was a favourite of mine also , so i figure the same studio would be up to something good, despite all the chaos at launch.

i have to say, Witcher 3 had some of the most engaging side quests, if cyberpunk is anything close to that it will be well worth it

i haven't replayed that yet, but man ghosts was absolutely phenomenal. rd2 i thought was a work of art, but ghosts really had insane art direction

reply

I haven’t even played RDR2 yet.

Maybe it’s time I get back on that one and play it to completion.

reply

well, you're in for a treat. we had a power outage that partially fried my ps4 and i had to wipe it, lost my save file for rd2 with hundreds of hours clocked, so at some point i will be replaying it, i have to play rd1 on switch first tho lol

reply

Metroid.

reply

ilast year i played the snes version, dread and metroid prime remaster on switch, fantastic games. Dread was fucking excellent

reply

I like to revisit the old grand theft autos

reply

that's one franchise i've never actually played in ernist. was thinking of picking up the remaster trilogy

reply

Fallout New Vegas. It’s a classic. I like to wander the wastes. Not even do quests just explore and make caps.

reply

i never played it, but the fallout series was excellent

reply

Recently re-played Blood with great pleasure. A cool 3d action game based on the Duke Nukem engine, but darker and damn stylish.

reply

Spyro from PS1 era. The modern remake is great aswell.

reply

i was thinking of getting that for my daughter, i never played the of on the ps1 as i was mostly n64

reply

Gears of War 2

reply

Heroes III.

always.

reply

Doom, Commander Keen :)

reply

i've never heard of Commander Keen, what console was that on?

reply

It was on PC with DOS. Where I'm from people didn't have game consoles, but it was almost all PCs - so it's exactly games like Wolfenstein 3D, Warcraft, Doom, Keen, Transport Tycoon, Quake, Fallout, Duke Nukem 3D, The Settlers 2, Command and Conquer Red Alert...

reply

I often revisit Pokemon games (Gen 1-3). Make me feel like a kid again

reply

some of my favorite things about retro games, no matter the console / age is remembering the time and place associated with a particular game, like link's awakening on the bus of a school trip or playing tetris in the car trying to beat my mums high score

reply

Castlevania Symphony of the night
